Wike Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, and Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike

Kalabari, Bonny and Orashi leaders of the Rivers West Senatorial District of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at a Joint Summit in Ahoada yesterday, urged members of the party to work hard and ensure that President Goodluck  Jonathan is prevailed upon to exercise his constitutional right to seek a second term in office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2015.

The Sport Minister poured enmociums on his Education counterpart and leader of PDP in Rivers State in blazing the trail of opening the door of freedom hitherto shut by the high handedness of the governor Chibuike Amaechi’s administration.

Earlier, the PDP leaders and stakeholders in the Kalabari, Bonny and the Orashi region comprised in the Local Government Areas of Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru, Degema and Bonny in Rivers State otherwise known as the Rivers West Senatorial District, passed a vote of confidence on the serving Minister, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Wike as a trail blazer in the struggle for freedom by the people of Rivers State since October 2007.

The joint Summit via two motion which were moved and roundly passed, urged President Jonathan to make himself available and seek re-election as President of Nigeria especially in view of his outstanding performance in office, despite the daunting challenges.

The second motion passed, urged Nyesom Wike to contest the office of Governor of Rivers State in 2015 especially following his uncommon efforts and fearless determination to defend the democratic right of the people.

The Minister of Sports had earlier said that there were persuasive and binding legal reasons in view of the perculiar circumstances of Rivers State at present, to encourage a candidate who has the ability to win back power for the good of the ordinary people and therefore caution against zoning for the position of Governor.

The Joint Summit was presided over by Chief Precious Elekima who spoke on behalf of the Kalabari and Bonny LGAs of the PDP leaders and Hon. Hope Ikiriko, Chairman of the Voice of Orashi Region (VOR) as well as High Chief Dr. James Ezebalike who is the Chairman of the Elders’ Council of the Voice of Orashi Region.

The  Joint Summit witness a large turnout of PDP leaders including present and former office holders.

Members of the APC up to 250, during the occasions decamp to PDP and openly tore their APC membership slips. PDP assured the decamped members that the party was big enough to accommodate all its members and intending members.
