Over 4o members of the Boko Haram have been killed in a battle between them and the soldiers in Bulanbuli, near the dreaded Sambisa Forest, the military said on Friday.
The Military also said that the troupe lost 4 soldiers in the battle with the insurgents.
According to the Defence Headquarters spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, he said that the gun duel was as a result of an arrest of suspected leader of the sect.
He said “The capture of a number of terrorists believed to be the ringleaders of those operating around Alagarmo, has sparked off a major fight in the outskirts of Bulanbuli, Borno State last night,” Mr. Olukolade, a Major General, said. “Over 40 terrorists died in the encounter while 4 soldiers lost their lives and 9 were wounded.”
Olukolade added that the troupe recovered more than 16 rifles, a substantial number of assorted calibres of ammunition, Sim Cards, Improvised Explosive Devices materials and electronic items.
He said, “Two of the terrorists were earlier arrested at a local market two days ago while trying to procure foodstuff while others were spying on the military base in the area. Others still being trailed include a terrorist medic who was on a mission to procure drugs for use by his colleagues.”
He revealed that terrorists have been trying to establish a stronghold in Bulanbuli, between Alagarmo and Sambisa Forest
Sambisa forest is said to be the stronghold of the insurgents where over 200 female students abducted at the Government Girls College, Chibok, Borno State is suspected to have been taken to.
In the Security meeting held on Thursday at the Presidential villa with all governors of the 36 states, some ministers, Sultan of Sokoto, CAN President and security chiefs, the issue of the kidnapped students were raised and the security chiefs promised to rescue the girls unhurt, and added that the group is closing in on the insurgents.
