Politicians Express Concern over Ekweremadu’s Rumoured Ambition

Prominent people from Enugu North senatorial district of Enugu State have expressed concern over speculation that the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, may insist on contesting the 2015 governorship election in the state.

300912F1.Ike-ekweremadu.jpg - 300912F1.Ike-ekweremadu.jpgThe zone’s concern is based on the decision of the elders from Enugu State, including Governor Sullivan Chime, top members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani and former Governor, Chief Jim Nwobodo, among others, agreeing that it is the turn of Enugu North to produce the next governor of the state.

The National Publicity Secretary, Nsukka Professionals Group (NPG), Dr. Nick Idoko, told newsmen in Lagos that Ekweremadu’s insistence that there is nothing like zoning in Enugu State runs contrary to the position of Chime and many others that “power will shift to Enugu North in 2015 in the spirit of fairness and equity.”

The group said it had planned a summit which comes up soon at Enugu to draw people’s support for the zone to produce the next governor, and urged the Deputy Senate President to consider the fact that the zone, unlike others, has not produced a governor for a long time now.

The group also advised Ekweremadu against fighting the governor and other elders of PDP and state on this matter for the interest of the state.
