No state in Nigeria has financial autonomy - JUSUN

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has declared that there is no state among the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory that has financial autonomy as stipulated by the 1999 Constitution.

As a result, the union expressed dismay at a statement credited to the chairman, Ilorin branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Mobalaji Ojibara, that the Nasarawa and Bayelsa states judiciary has financial autonomy.

Describing the statement as untrue, JUSUN warned that such unconfirmed statement, especially from a legal practitioner and chairman of a respectable association like the NBA, is capable of misleading the public.

The union said the NBA chairman ought to know better and inform the Nigerian public on the happenings in the sector rather than feeding them with lies. They therefore called on Nigerians to disregard the statement.

A press release signed by the national president of JUSUN, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu and made available to journalists in Abuja said, the union is still fighting for financial independent of the Judiciary as contained in a court order of the Federal High Court, Abuja, issued on January 13, 2014.
