The 28-year-old suspect resides at 44, Ago-Owu Compound, Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state with her husband.

Faturoti had allegedly taped the mouth of the innocent baby and tied her hands behind her as a measure to punish her for the preferential treatment the toddler enjoyed from the father.

She was said to have thereafter locked her inside the room and left for her place of work, where she worked as a salesgirl at a filling station in the town.

The police were said to have forced the  door open and the found baby in a critical condition.

The medical doctor, who attended to her, was reported to have said the baby could have died if she had remained in that position for another two hours.

The suspect had been arrested and transfered to the zonal headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

The biological mother of the victim is said to be mentally-challenged, hence, the decision of the father to put her in the care of the stepmother.

The suspect, who’s said to have a one-year-old baby for her husband, confessed to the crime, saying she acted in that manner because her husband was paying too much attention to the stepdaughter more than her.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect would be charged to court on conclusion of investigation.
