Edo PDP rejects election results in three Lgs

BENIN—EDO State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, rejected the results in weekend’s presidential and National Assembly elections in three local government areas of Akoko-Edo, Owan –East and Etsako – West, over alleged multiple and under-aged voting, among other irregularities.

State chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, who addressed newsmen in Benin, yesterday said: “Reports reaching us from these local government areas show that the elections were characterised by multiple voting, under-aged voting and harassment of PDP supporters.

“We noticed very grievous mutilated results on the report sheets. We have rejected the results from these councils due to the irregularities observed. We appeal to our party supporters in these areas to remain calm and wait for further directives from the party. The party has directed it’s legal team to write a petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the issue.”

Chief Orbih expressed gratitude to Edo people for voting for candidates of the PDP, in the elections, saying that the people have spoken loudly against multiple taxation and other oppressive policies of the state government.

He called on the state governor to commend the PDP for its victory instead of blaming the Army for the party’s failure.

According to him, “During the 2012 governorship election in the state and when my party lost to him in the 18 local government areas of the state, I came out openly to commend the outcome of the election. He should also have the courage to commend the PDP for defeating APC in this election.”

Orbih also commended security agencies in the state for the peaceful conduct of the elections.
