Osun senatorial candidate alleges threat

Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate for Osun East, Mr Francis Fadahunsi, on Monday claimed that he escaped assassination attempt on his life on Sunday night.

Fadahunsi, who spoke through the director of publicity of his campaign organisation, Mr. Sola Olowoye, told journalists in Osogbo on Monday that he had gone to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission to complain about the delay in the announcement of the senatorial poll results and was returning home when somebody in a vehicle fired shots at the candidate’s convoy.

He said that his security aides diverted his convoy into the PDP secretariat at Ogo Oluwa area to escape death.

Olowoye said, “But as he was being rushed into the premises of PDP secretariat, some armed men alighted from the vehicle that had trailed us from INEC office and fired several shots at the Toyota Solara car conveying Fadahunshi.

“He barely escaped being hit by the bullets. Fadahunshi was in company with the state chairman of PDP, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, and other party leaders when the attack took place.

“They had visited the INEC office because of the delay in announcing the winner of the senatorial contest.”

The Commissioner of Police in charge of election in the state, Mr. Sam Okaula, could not be reached as call put across to his telephone failed to connect.
