The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Rivers State chapter, Bro Felix Obuah, has lauded the magnanimity and disposition of the Wife of the President, Dr. Dame Patience Jonathan, in empowering indigenes and residents of the State through her NGO, Women For Change Initiative.
The Party Chairman describes such action by the First Lady as a benevolent gesture and appropriate response to the plights of the people who have been sadly disappointed and neglected by the Rivers State Government and the All Progressives Congress Local Government Chairmen which primary responsibilities include provision of social security and economic livelihood.
Chief Obuah notes that the First Lady has demonstrated that she is truly a caring and listening mother who feels the pains of the people and desires better life for her people and all those who have continued to support and identify with the lofty transformational agenda of Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, and the PDP leadership.
In the same vein, the PDP Chairman, in a Statement signed by his Media Adviser, Jerry Needam, extends his appreciation to the teeming party supporters and the good people of Rivers State who ignored the pressure and intimidation by agents and other forces of the State Government on them not to welcome their Sister and mother, the energetic First Lady of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dame Patience Jonathan, to the State.
“On behalf of myself, the State Executive Council, and the entire PDP in the State, I thank all Rivers people, who came massively on Wednesday, August 6, from the 23 Local Governments of the State to welcome the Mother of the Nation and to participate fully in the event at Obio Akpo during which the First Lady gave out gifts items, including buses, Keke Napep, grinding machines, speed boats, wrapper, cash donations, bags of rice, domestic utensils, motor cycles, etc. to thousands of people from 21 LGAs as means of empowerment of their people and as part of her pet project of rural empowerment of the people”, Obuah said.
The Party is gratified that in a State where the governor and his allies are bent on destroying the image of such an illustrious daughter of the soil, the First Lady, and her husband, the President, the people still demonstrated their unalloyed likeness and acceptance for them, as it was evident at the Wednesday event during the visit by the First Lady in the State.
The PDP urges the people to continue in their towering spirit of love and passion for the President and his family and to further show their support by voting for him in the 2015 general election, assuring the people that the PDP government will never let them down.
