The All Progressives Congress continues to loose its big wig in the party as the APC Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Olufemi Lanlehin has defected to the Accord Party, AP, on Tuesday.
Mr. Lanlehi announced his defection to the AP at a rally in Ibadan. It could be recalled that Senator Ademola Adeseun representing the Central Senatorial District also left APC to The People Democratic Party, PDP, barely a month ago. And the third Senator, Hosea Agboola representing North Senatorial District belongs to the PDP.
What this means is that, the APC currently has no senator from Oyo State as the defection of the senators have changed the equation ahead of 2015 general elections.
The zero senator would be a blow to the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi who is an APC member.
Lanlehin defected with a former PDP senator, Gbenga Babalola and an APC leader, Yemi Aderibigbe and were officially given the AP flag by the party leader, Rasheed Ladoja.
A former governor of the state, Mr. Ladoja welcomed the new members and assured Lanlehin that he could contest to any elective position except the governorship which is reserved for him (Ladoja).
Ladoja assured the party supporters that the party would not disappoint them if given the power and voted for in May, 2015.
He said “We did it before and we shall do it even better again,” Mr. Ladoja said. Responding, Mr. Lanlehin, who described Ladoja as “my leader and father” urged Oyo State people, particularly his supporters, to vote the former governor again in the 2015 governorship election Mr. Adeleke asked the people to hold the APC by its words, saying
“The APC, when they were ACN, said you should not vote for a party that does not have a senator. Today that Senator Lanlehin is now in Accord, I want to urge you the people of Oyo State not to vote for APC because it is now truly a party that does not have a Senator.”
