Crisis rocks Adamawa PDP as acting gov, party chair plot alliance

ABUJA- AHEAD the October 11 gubernatorial election in Adamawa and primary election by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP fixed for September 6, strong indications emerged yesterday crisis looms in the Adamawa state chapter of PDP as stakeholders in the state have continued to criticise the allege move by the acting governor, Ahmadu Umar Fintiri to recruit the state party chairman, Chief Joel Madaki to work towards the actualisation of his governorship ambition.

It was gathered yesterday that Fintiri promised the party chairman that he would make him his running mate if he helps him to get the party’s nomination.

According to a source in the state chapter of the party, moves by the acting governor was to use the chairman in getting a grip over the party as that would help frustrate other aspirants, saying, “while the acting governor fuel in money, as he currently does, to compromise delegates and other stakeholders.

“Their plan is to block other contenders from having their own people emerge as delegates at the congress scheduled for Monday, and subsequently deny the aspirants opportunity to meet with the elected delegates.

“Majority of the members of the state party executive are not in support of what is happening but the acting governor and the chairman are intimidating them with threats of exclusion or expulsion.

“The way they are going about this is really dangerous not only for the PDP in Adamawa but also democratic practice in the country. If Fintiri is allowed to go with his plans it would set a terrible precedence that may see Speakers impeaching the elected governors of their state and foist themselves on everybody.

“We cannot allow this to stand. You cannot come in mufti and stage a kind of military coup. The activities of Fintiri and his cronies signify height of desperation and lawlessness to satisfy myopic interest.

“We are submitting a petition to the national leadership of the party for it to do something about this because the way it is no aspirant can be comfortable to go into the primaries when the process is already skewed in favour of one person.”
