Purchase of Automatic Road Analyser: Gov. Amaechi Breached 2014 Budget Provisions -PDP

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, expresses grave concerns and total dissatisfaction over the continued misappropriation of State’s fund on unbudgeted items and activities of government.

The PDP says it was absolutely wrong and illegal for Governor Rotimi Amaechi, in collaboration with the Director-General of the State Bureau of Public Procurement, Franklyn Nlerum, to purchase the controversial N218m Automatic Road Analyser without any such provision in the 2014 Budget.

The Party, in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Media Adviser to the State Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah, also queries the Bureau’s action in abandoning its statutory responsibility of ensuring government’s actions compliance with due process and standards, and venture into actual execution of projects and policies, expressing great disappointment over the compromise of functions by the D.G of the Bureau.

The PDP says actions of government and its agencies in the State make it believe that there is total collapse of governance in the State as the Governor and other handlers of government functions in the State are no longer accountable to the people and do not act according to standard principles and Budget provisions.

The PDP says the Director General of the State Bureau of Public Procurement, Franklyn Nlerum, is living above his means and busy acquiring properties in choice areas in Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos, and therefore queries the source of his funds.

The Party therefore renews its call on anti graft agencies and relevant authorities to be on alert and to prosecute fraudulent officials of Rivers State government to avert further financial wastages and recklessness in public service in the State.
