Unknown gunmen, on Saturday, night invaded Soro village in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, killing the district head, Alhaji Abdurrahman Isa Baba and two other persons in the process and carted away huge sums of money.
Residents informed journalists on Sunday that the men, six in number, arrived at the village, armed and opened fire on the 45-year-old district head and one of his relatives, who was together with him in his sitting room at the time of the incidence and collected an undisclosed amount of money.
According to the sources, the bandits killed another person outside the building in their bid to escape from the scene before people could arrive to the rescue.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mohammed Haruna, told journalists that the deceased were killed by the gunmen at about 8.00 p.m. on Saturday, adding that the bandits escaped to unknown destination.
According to the PPRO, “six gunmen suspected to be armed bandits stormed Soro town in Ganjuwa LGA of Bauchi State and killed the District Head of Soro, Abdurrahman Isa Baba and two other traders, carted away undisclosed amount of money and escaped to unknown destination.”
Haruna informed that a team of combined security forces visited the scene of the incident and took the remains of the victims to the hospital, adding that the surrounding had been cordoned off and efforts were being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.
The police spokesperson added that investigations into the incident had since commenced, with a view to fishing out the bandits terrorising the area.
