Danladi Kifas takes over as Head of Service

The new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Irmiya Kifasi has pledged to deepen the on-going Civil Service Reforms initiated by his predecessors, in order to restore public trust in the Federal Civil Service.

Danladi Kifasi made the pledge in Abuja recently when he took over the leadership of the Federal Civil Service after the formal retirement of Bukar Goni Aji, the immediate past Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

The new Head of Service affirmed his commitment to the implementation of the strategic priorities of the on-going Public Service Reforms which he said include: promotion of service – wide intra and inter-sector linkages; elimination of corruption in the Civil Service through enhancement of transparency in the conduct of government business; sustenance of e-governance including automation of Integrated Personnel Pay Roll and Information Systems (IPPIS) in MDAs, among others.

“It is incumbent on all of us to continue even more vigorously on the on-going efforts to restore public trust in the public service as a professional, efficient, performing and accountable institution. The survival of the service is dependent on overcoming the challenges of insufficient research and information technology capacity, inadequate communication skills, lack of innovation and red-tapism,” he said.

He informed that the Civil Service has remained the most vital institution through which the government delivers its policies and programs to the citizenry and must therefore continue to evolve new ideas and innovations to make it relevant to the people. He added that his tenure will focus on building an effective governance structure geared towards achieving organizational efficiency and the attainment of professionalism that will lead to a result-oriented Civil Service.

According to him, a special retreat will be held with all Permanent Secretaries to strategise on ways to improve on service delivery since he has assumed duty.

Speaking earlier, the former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Bukar Goni Aji called for total support and cooperation from all Civil Servants to enable the new Head of Service carry on with the reforms of government for better service delivery. He also advised the new Head of Service to always seek the views of his colleagues on all policies, programmes and decisions; saying this will ensure success in his tenure.
