Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, was again attacked by bombers on Saturday, believed to be the handiwork of the terror group, Boko Haram.
Saturday’s attacks occurred simultaneously at the two popular markets in the town at about 12noon, where scores of traders and their customers were feared to have been killed.
It was gathered from a worker of one of the emergency management agencies in the state, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to our correspondent on the telephone, that the explosions took place at the popular Baga market and post office area, close to the popular Monday market.
He said a team of rescuers had been dispatched to the explosion sites.
“I cannot state at present if it the attacks were carried out by suicide bombers but I should be able to tell you later,” he added.”
Some of the residents of the town said they saw ambulances conveying the corpses of those that died in the incidents to the mortuary.
There is apparent fear in the town even as most of the major roads have been cordoned off by the military.
