Eighty seven year old American missionary, Rev. Phyllis Sortor, who was kidnapped two weeks ago from her school premises in Emiworo in Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi State, has been freed.
The woman, who was released around 8.30pm last Friday, was later sighted at the Kogi State Police Command headquarters, Lokoja, around 11pm.
A source, who spoke in confidence, said the victim was dropped at a junction between Emiworo and Ero, after which a woman who sighted her raised an alarm that attracted others.
The Kogi State Commissioner of Police (CP), Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi did not offer any details aside confirming that Revd. Sortor “was in good health.”
“No ransom was paid to the kidnappers,” he added.
The abductors had demanded N60 million, which they later reduced to N30 million as ransom for Sortor’s release.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sola Adebayo, yesterday told our correspondent that no suspect has been arrested.
Adebayo added that the police were still laying ambush for the abductors.
