Retired DSP, police corporal arrested for supplying Boko Haram arms in Imo State

Imo State – Nigerian soldiers have arrested a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police, Abu Haruna over his alleged involvement in in supplying arms to insurgents in the North.


Another policeman, a corporal simply identified as Solomon was arrested for the same crime but escaped. The third suspect, Onuwa Attaka was the driver of the arm-laden vehicle which which the suspects were travelling.

The suspects where on their way to the North from Imo State when they were arrested in Nsukka, Enugu State by Nigerian Army.


According to the information gathered, the suspects confessed to be involved in arms and ammunition dealing and supplying the insurgents (Boko Haram) in the northern part of Nigeria where several attacks have been reported.


Items recovered from them included 40 AK-47 magazines, four boxes of AK-47 live ammunition, 100 live cartridges, a Mopol khaki and charms hidden in a cap.


One of the military forces disclosed to newsmen that Imo State police corporal was among those involved in the arms conveyance.


He said“When we asked the occupants of the vehicle to come down, we found a police corporal in uniform among them. The corporal, upon getting down, pretended to be pressed, before he later ran away.”


it was gathered that the military after apprehending the suspects, took them to Nsukka Police Division before they were later transfered to the state Criminal investigation Department, CID.


The retired DSP confessed during interrogation that since his retirement, he had been dealing in illegal arms.


He added that he was moving the arms to his customers in Taraba State


The retired Police DSP further confessed that this was their second trip, adding that the buyer complained earlier that the consignment was not complete.


The source also revealed that the police corporal fingered in the illegal business has been traced to Imo State police command and effort are being made to make sure he is brought to book.


The Nsukka Police Area Commander, ASP Ros-Amson Haladu, has praised the brave effort of the soldiers in fighting crimes in the area.



He said“I want to commend the soldiers for their vigilance in tracking down these illegal arms dealers. At the same time, I warn criminals to leave this vicinity or risk being arrested by security operatives,” he said.7*/-
