Sylva defection to APC regrettable - Governor Dickson

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has warned former loyalists of his predecessor in office, Chief Timipre Sylva against “jumping the gun and being in a hurry to pursue their ambitions”.

The governor, who gave the warning at the official ceremony to receive Sylva’s former deputy, Werinipre Seibarugu, and his other loyalists into the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bayelsa at the weekend, promised that they would be properly integrated into the party.

He described as “regrettable” the decision by the former governor of the State, Sylva, to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying such action was unfortunate.

Although he affirmed that Sylva’s decision to pitch tents with APC was within his fundamental human rights, Dickson said it was a display of impatience as a loyal party man.

He, therefore, urged the former loyalists of Sylva to prevail on him to return to the PDP.

“What you are doing is right. What unites us is much more bigger (sic) than party affiliations. It is unfortunate that my good friend and your former boss took the path he had taken. Though regrettable, it was within his rights. We are delighted that you have decided to come back to strengthen your party. Every party is as strong as its members”, he said.

Sylva’s former deputy, Seibarugu, said though they took the removal of Sylva, in good faith, what they found disturbing was the way they were treated as outcasts by the PDP.

He noted that recent events including the declaration by Chief Sylva for the APC had prompted the former aides under the aegis of Ex-Bayelsa Government officials Forum, to debunk the impression that the former governor defected with his former aides and appointees to the opposition party.
