More facts are emerging on what led to the sudden resignation of the immediate past National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu .

This came just as the remaining members of the National Working Committe (NWC) under the Acting National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus,  have escaped being sacked, following the woeful performance of the party in the just concluded general elections, which led to the resignation of Mu’azu and Chief Tony Anenih, as National Chairman and Chairman, Board of Trustee, (BoT) respectively.

An informed member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party confirmed to  the Sunday Tribune in Abuja, on Saturday, that already, President Goodluck Jonathan, who is also the national leader, had pleaded with all the aggrieved members of the party to calm down and allow the Secondus-led NWC to stay back to rebuild the party for the task ahead.

Also, the BoT of the party would be in a crucial meeting in Abuja tomorrow to look into the post elections crisis rocking the party and the election of a new chairman for the body suddenly vacated by Chief Anenih, as President Jonathan is still under pressure to take up the position.

A source close to the Presidency told the Sunday Tribune in Abuja on how Mu’azu refused to reply to all the calls and text messages put across to him by President Jonathan since he was outside the country.

“Can you imagine, President Jonathan personally called Mu’azu and even sent text messages to him in order for both of them to have one-on-one discussion on the matter, but he ignored all the calls and the messages, what an insult? It was even the Mr President that brought him to the position, despite the opposition from all directions,’ the source lamented.

On the decision to allow the Secondus-led NWC to stay back against the agitations from the various quarters that the entire members should be sacked the source said that the decision was taken at a meeting held with some state governors, some newly elected members of the  National Assembly  and some party leaders at the Presidential Villa last Wednesday.

It was gathered that, during the meeting, the president wanted to know why the entire NWC members should be sacked. After all deliberations, he counselled them on why the party should not take such an unproductive decision, following the explanations of Secondus who was the national deputy chairman of the party.

According to the source, Secondus explained to the gathering that he delivered his unit, ward, the local government, state (Rivers) and  the South-South zone to the party during the polls, while he also assisted in other  and such he saw  no reason why he should resign, and as well asked Mr President and other leaders present at the meeting to confirm claim from the Akwa-Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio,  who in turn nodded his to confirm”.

“I can tell you that at that meeting, everybody agreed with the explanation of Secondus except a deserting voice from th e South-West before the president finally advised that the aggrieved individuals and zones allow the status quo remain while the Mu’azu’s zone should go and bring another replacement for him in line with the constitution of the party”,the source stated.

According to the source, the party’s congresses will start from February next year from the Ward level to the national and this will lead to our national convention for the selection of new officers of the party.

So, we don’t have time again, it is better the curent set of people carry on while the members should calm down.
