Kevin who equally confessed his terrible act, told journalist at the station that he stayed in Libya for two years and also spent some time in Ghana but eventually came back to Edo State after trying different possibilities for a better life but to no avail.

According to Crime Guard, Kevin called a 67 years old cab driver, Avbigame Sunday last month to take him to his building site in Ovbiogie community near Oluku in Edo, unknown to the cab driver that there was no such site in Ovbiogie but only being deceived in order to carry out his evil act.

Avbigame according to the information gathered, after receiving calls from Kevin, left the suspect number to his wife and friends in case unexpected situation arise. He informed his family that he was on his way to pick the suspect to a project site.

The deceased who was driving Audi 80 car with registration number SGG 287 AA, was allegedly hit from behind with a plank by the suspect who his mission was to snatch the car.

The driver was said to have quickly left with the car to Lagos and was intercepted in Ekpe by the policemen where he eventually abandoned the car and came back to Benin.

The suspect after arriving Edo State, used the phone of the suspect to contact his family and demanded $30,000 before he is released.

Confessing to the crime, the suspect said ” When i came back from Ghana this year, The people (Bricklayers) i was working for as service boy had new people, so my work was not moving as expected as i did not have my personal clients anymore.

“One day, the driver, Sunday carried me to Uselu Share, when i observed the man was advancing, i did not know what came over me, i thought of the car, Audi 80 which i can use for transportation in Lagos if i successfully steal it. So i lied to the man if he could take me to a building site that i just came back from travel, so he gave me his number and i gave him mine too.

“In the evening of it, he called me to ask if i saved his number, i told him i did. On Sunday, he called me to confirm if the arrangement was possible on Monday and i said yes. and i told him 3pm. At 2 on Monday, i called him to meet me at Bronze Royal Hotel and we bought a local gin, though there was no site, we went to Ovbiogie.

“As we reached the bush, i dropped the drink and asked him to bring my bag and i took a stick to hit him from behind. My intention was to make him collapse and not to kill him, so i took his car and started driving to Lagos. I left Benin around 3.30pm to 4.pm. Before i reached Ekpe, the time was already 2am and i was stopped by some policemen.

They asked me for the particulars and driving licence, they observed that it was not the same and they asked me about the owner of the vehicle, they threatened me that they will take me to the station, and i kept begging.

As i observed they were attending to other vehicles, i used the opportunity and ran through the bush, i slept somewhere in the bush and found my way back to Benin the next morning.

As i arrived Benin, i realized i did not gain anything from the deal so i decided to use his phone to call his family and demanded for $30,000 ransom, pretending that i am his kidnapper and they (his family) said they must speak with the deceased before they pay. I demanded for N20,000 recharge card before they can speak with him.

At the time they were calling for his whereabouts, i realized the man did not make it out of there. They finally sent me N800 recharge and i demanded for another and they sent another N5000 and i sold the card to some trailer drivers in Oluku. The drivers bought up to N2-3000 and i loaded some too.

The next day, a friend of mine who also loaded about N400 from the card called me that there was a job that he would want me to handle, i did not know the police had arrested the boy and through him i was arrested..

Edo state police is now making every necessary effort to recover the Audi 80 from Ekpe police station
