Buhari"s Inaugural Speech Still Campaign Rhetorics - Ajulo

The National Secretary of Labour Party, Mr. Olukayode Ajulo, has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s inaugural speech as vague and not far- reaching enough based on the expectations of Nigerians.

The Labour Party has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to be more focused on a programme of action instead of making dictatorial and anti-democratic pronouncements, while pretending to be democratic.

Ajulo, who was making a critique of the President’s policy highlights as contained in his speech said for failing to speak on such burning issues like unpaid salaries of Nigerian workers and how to improve the socio-economic conditions of the ordinary man, Buhari seemed far from reality.

Buhari had said in his speech said that apart from insecurity, another key issue that will attract priority of his administration is dealing with corruption. He assured that though the Federal Government can not interfere in the operations of other tiers of government, he will ensure that the gross corruption at the local level is checked.

“As far as the constitution allows me I will try to ensure that there is responsible and accountable governance at all levels of government in the country. For I will not have kept my own trust with the Nigerian people if I allow others abuse theirs under my watch,” he said.

However, in a statement issued Sunday, Ajulo said President Buhari needs to be reminded that election campaigns are over and that he should stop sounding as if he is still wooing the electorate for votes.

“Agreed, the President’s speech could not have covered every conceivable issue; however, the commander-in-chief cannot brush these issues aside because all key stakeholders want to hear from him, it is from him that they take their cue respectively.

“Having read and listened to the inaugural speech of General Mohammadu Buhari even with high expectations, one can deduce that  Mr President  conspicuously refused to dwell on burning issues like unpaid salaries of Nigerian workers who are groaning in pains with no respite on sight,” he said.
