Edo State Election Petition Tribunal today held its inaugural sitting at the premises of Court of appeal Benin to entertain the 10 petitions filed before it within 180 days.
In it’s inaugural speech, the Chairman, Edo State election petition tribunal, Justice S. Anjo said said the court will sit for 180 days starting from the day election results were declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Justice Anjo who said that the tribunal will be attending to state and national assembly election petition said the court entertain unwarranted adjournment, adding that the tribunal is saddled with the responsibility of giving justice to the deserved without fear or favour of anyone or political party.
The tribunal Chairman advised aggrieved politicians to present their petitions properly along with their witnesses when necessary.
He advised journalists to partner with the tribunals by verifying reports before publishing them.
The Chairman who sounded a note of warning to members of the bars, commissioners and their counsels not to try to influence the court as the tribunal will dispense justice without bias.
Other members of the tribunal committee are Justice I. A Yusuf and Justice A. M Ali.
