Amaechi paying contractors for jobs anticipated to be done - Transition Committee

By Ehi Ekhator, Naija Center News

The Transition Committee of the Governor-Elect of Rivers state said it has received reports of hurried financial transactions by the out-going government of Rivers State.

According to the Committee, the transactions are neither provided for in the State budget nor do they have the necessary cash backings.

In a statement by the Secretary, Transition Committee, Hon. (Barr.) Frank Owhor, made available to NAIJA CENTER NEWS, the committee said Amaechi refusal to constitute a Transition Committee to interface with that of the Governor-Elect has created a loophole that is being exploited by corrupt and unscrupulous political appointees to the detriment of the people of the State.

The Committee also accused the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi that he is now paying contractors in advance for work not yet done or anticipated to be done.

The Committee advised the general public to refrain from being part of any dubious financial or commercial transaction whether involving Certificate of Occupancy, award of contracts, guarantees, prepayment and advances, adding that anyone who chose to enter into financial commitments involved in the backdating of contracts and other commercial transactions may have themselves to be blame.

” Political Office holders are also advised to be circumspect in their last minutes dealing as there is no immunity for them, whether in or out of office.

For the avoidance of doubt, the in-coming administration would not honour fictitious transactions, done or purported to be done.” The Committee added.
