Those who defected include former Anambra State governorship aspirant on the platform of APGA and Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Environment, Honourable Uche Ekwunife; Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Capital Market, Honourable Chris Emeka Azubogu and the Deputy Chairman, Media and Public Affairs Committee, Honourable Victor Afam Ogene.

Others are member representing Onitsha North/Onitsha South Federal Constituency, Honorable Cyril Egwuatu and the Chairman, House Committee on Culture, Tourism, Pilgrimages and Religious Matters, Honourable John Olibie.

They were received into the party on Thursday, at Legacy House, Abuja by the National Chairman, Dr Ahmed Muazu and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Those who defected had earlier written to the national leadership of the PDP on their intention to join the party and requested for waiver to enable them to contest for any future elective position in the state.

Receiving them, Muazu expressed delight at the return of many of them who were formerly members of the PDP and assured that the returnees and new members will be treated with fairness equity and justice as if they had always been in the PDP.

He said: “I am very delighted. As I have said all the time, for those prodigal children of PDP that have decided to go wandering, that are coming back home, we welcome you.

He assured the new members of the support saying, “You are as old as me and we will treat you accordingly”

He observed that the PDP is the leading party that it is today because of its consistency and transparency.

According to him, “I want to assure you, the party you have chosen to come back to is not just the largest as they say, it is the most Democratic Party. We are the most transparent. In whatever we do, we try to make it clear and that is why we insisted since I came that those of you that a interested in vying for positions, please, the power does not lie in me or in the villa, neither does it lie in any of us in the Working Committee or the governors. It lies in the power of democracy, the power in the power of democracy, the power to elect by the people for themselves for the good of the people,” the party boss said.
