….Says blocks of four flats to be taxed too
Edo State government is to adhere to the strict enforcement of the Land Use charge Law, with the exemption of recognized and approved places of religious worship, the State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Francis Evbuomwan has said.
This was contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Rabi Umoru.
While inspecting the Land Use charge new office presently under construction in Benin City, Evbuomwan said notification and enlightenment on the Land Use charges would be done in due course.
According to the commissioner, efforts are towards implementation and enforcement of the law as the ministry has embarked on property enumeration and valuation in different parts of Benin City in line with the law.
The law was signed into law in by Governor Adams Oshiomhole in 2012 to help government optimize the use of land and landed property in Edo State through appropriate taxation.
The commissioner gave an insight the import of the law, saying it allows taxation of four categories of property.
He listed the categories to include, Residential Property Land size in excess of 100feet by 50feet); Commercial /Residential property; commercial property and Industrial/ Manufacturing property.
Residential property with shops in them and blocks of four flats, the commissioner said would be taxed under the Commercial / Residential property category.
