PDP Urges Governor Amaechi, Emma Chinda, Others To Respond To Corruption Allegations

The Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State Chapter says it feels justified by the revelations emanating from the Ikwerre Political Forum which is one of the latest in the series of revelations of corruption and fraudulent actions of Governor Rotimi Amaechi and his aides, an ugly trend that characterizes the Amaechi-led State government which the party had over the period complained about.

Coming on the heels of the PDP’s charges of corruption against the Governor, a United Kingdom based politician, and President of Ikwerre Political Forum, IPF, Mr. Great Owhor, has disclosed that the Governor Amaechi led government is neck deep in corruption, saying that claims by the Governor of zero tolerance for corruption in Rivers State is deceptive and cannot be defended by him, as evidences of his misappropriation of public funds abound.

The PDP says though stunning, it’s not shocked to hear this because it has enough evidence of Governor Amaechi’s misdeeds and abuse of office as well as those of his acolytes in his Executive Council, Assembly men and other aides.

The Party expresses confidence in the disclosure by Mr. Owhor and the Ikwerre Political Forum published in the Beacon Newspaper of June 27, 2014, in which the group said Governor Amaechi owns several houses in London and that during the opening of one of his houses in Western London, he (Amaechi) threw a lavish party where no expense was spared.

The group, still in same publication, said it is only under Amaehci that a serving Commissioner could embark on a multi-billion naira project and nobody is asking questions, wondering why the State House of Assembly and the Governor continue to cover up corruption and the looting of the State treasury by cabinet members.

The Party  adds that it’s also not lost on it that Amaechi’s Commissioner for Agriculture, Emma Chinda is building a shopping mall along Abacha road in Port Harcourt, which so far has gulped over 3 billion naira, saying that same level of corruption is being carried out by his counterparts in Power, Health, Transport, and Education.

While commending the courage and patriotism exhibited by the Ikwerre Political Forum in exposing these evils by the governor on the State, the PDP calls on other well meaning individuals and organizations not to be silent over the corrupt practices of Amaechi which have become a State policy.

The PDP, while calling on the Governor, Emma Chinda and other corrupt officials of Rivers State government to respond to the Corruption charges against them, also wants for explanation on the whereabouts of the 3,000 pounds Rotimi Amaechi (as Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly) refused to handover to the Ogbakor Ikwerre in London when he represented the then Governor, Dr. Peter Odili, and was asked to deliver to the Ikwerre socio-cultural organization, as contained in the IPF statement in the media.

It is however, on the strength of these stunning revelations that the Party reiterates its persistent call on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, the Independent Corrupt Practices Commissioner, ICPC, and other relevant agencies to urgently commence investigations on Governor Amaechi and his political aides to avert further squandering of public funds in the State.
