Boko Haram destroys bridge linking Nigeria and Cameroon

By Ehi Ekhator

Boko Haram sect could be in a total panic as the world come together to rescue the girls abducted on April 14 in their hostels at Government Secondary School, Chibok.

Human Right Watch Accused Boko HaramThe sect has destroyed the bridge linking Nigeria to Cameroon,  between Gamboru-Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State and Cameroon

The Defence Headquarte4rs who confirmed the incident said it was a partial destruction by the sect to slow down the chase of their members who ran to the neighbouring country.

According to a military source:  “The affected bridge is a vital one connecting Nigeria with Cameroon. The fleeing sect members destroyed the bridge in anger to frustrate troops from pursuing them.

“The way they destroyed the bridge, only light vehicles can manage to pass. The damage will not allow armoured vehicles to pass through. The target is to halt the movement of troops across the border.

“This development has confirmed intelligence report that the insurgents have a well-established base in Cameroon.”

The Director of Defence Information, Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said: “The bridge was partially destroyed to slow down troops pursuing them and frustrate their operation.”

Since January 2013, Boko Haram had succeeded in taking control of more than 8 Local Government Areas in the northern Borno, including Gamboru-Ngala, Mobbar Gubio, Guzamala, Abadam, Kukawa, and Kala-Balge.

But information gathered revealed that the Nigerian troops succeeded in regaining the Local Governments.

Speculations last night revealed that Boko Haram might be attempting to take over Northern Borno afresh by the seizure of Gamboru.
