The Executive of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola has faulted the United state over its statement issued to its citizen that Lagos could be a target by the Boko Haram sect.

US had earlier issued a travel note warning, saying that Boko Haram could be planning their next attack in Lagos, Sheraton Hotel to be precise.

Fashola said US should have handled such report that is capable of hitting up the polity.

He disclosed this while handing over 100 patrol vans and 150 motorcycles to the state’s police command. He said that the warning was wrongly channeled and could create fear in the country.

He said that the US should have shared such privileged information with the state government instead of making it public to scare citizens.

He said, “There is no further information regarding the timing and method of the attack. US citizens were just cautioned to avoid the hotel. I think there are channels of communication which information of that type can shared without creating panic. And I think that citizens of all nations can be protected without throwing a cat among pidgins.

“I will hope that we are more circumspect in the way we share information and that our intentions are noble.

“This is very important. At this time, what the country needs is more information in the right hands, to the right places. This will assist our agencies and government to overcome this difficult period”.

Talking about the abduction of the over 200 students in Chibok, Borno State, he said he was disturbed by the report and urge all Nigerians to come together to make sure they are rescued.

He added that  the patrol vans and motorcyles were donated through the state’s  Security  Trust Fund to strengthen security in the state.

He advised the police to show more commitment to their job and make sure the donation are used judiciously.

Fashola said, “These tools mean nothing unless we have dedicated men and women who choose to act professionally in the responsibility of law enforcement entrusted upon them”.

The Commissioner of Police,Umar Manko, commended the state government, adding that the materials would help law enforcement agents in discharging their responsibilities.
