A’Ibom LP expels five ex-exco members, suspends 11

The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Labour Party, in conjunction with its national headquarters, Abuja, has suspended 11 of its members and expelled five of its former state executives members.

A statement signed by the party’s state chairman, Prof. Ekeng Anam-Ndu; state secretary, Elder Utip Etiebet, and endorsed by the National Deputy Chairman, Mr. Calistus Okafor, in Uyo on Saturday, said the affected persons were investigated and found to be guilty of anti-party activities and display of unwarranted impunity.

The party, accordingly advised the general public to be cautious in dealing with the persons affected, especially in matters relating to Labour Party.

“These people are no more our members and they should not be seen as representing the party anywhere. Anyone dealing with them in the name of our party does so at his or her own risk,” the statement read.

The party maintained that it had begun the process to challenge the outcome of the “fraudulent and miscarriage so-called election of April 11, 2015 at the tribunal,” the party added.

According to the party, the decision to suspend and expel some of its erring members is to bring sanity to the party.

Okafor said those expelled from the party were members of the former executive that had been dissolved.

“I am empowered by the National Executive Council of our great party, the Labour Party, to endorse the suspension of recalcitrant members and expulsion of the former executive members, who are bent on tarnishing the image of the party. We cannot allow such impunity to happen,” the LP said without specifying the offences committed.

“The state executive of the party has been empowered to institute a caretaker committee in each of the affected local government areas.”
