- Praises Nigeria armed forces
As part of activities lined up for the 2015 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, President Goodluck Jonathan has launched the Emblem and Fund raising for members of the Legionnaires. Conducting the ceremony, President Jonathan praised the gallantry of the Nigerian Armed Forces over the years in keeping the nation united.
The President noted that the Armed Forces has not only brought peace to the country but also ensured the proper protection of the territorial integrity of the nation. The president said their selfless service has also caused many to secure home and abroad through its contribution to global peace as members of the international Peace Corps.
He also thanked those who donated last year and those now donating at the emblem launch.
The president directed that the emblem must be worn by public officers from now till the 15th of January, 2015 when the laying of wreath to mark the end of the celebration will come up. To ensure compliance, the president maintained that emblem would henceforth serve as access to state house and visitors’ access to public institutions.
He also promised that his government will continue to take the welfare of the Legionnaires at heart even as modalities and implementation have begun towards increasing their persons.
