THE National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has stated that his relationship with his successor and governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, remained intact, despite media reports that the duo were at loggerheads over the succession struggle in the state.
Tinubu, in a statement signed by his media aide and made available to newsmen, said the insinuations of a feud between him and Fashola were “either concerted, unsubstantiated, pure conjections or outright falsehood,” noting that political enemies who sought to “drive a wedge in an otherwise cordial and respectful political relationship” were behind such stories.
Noting that he might disagree with Fashola on issues, the former governor said they remained on the same page on issues that affect Lagos State’s interest, saying that the issues surrounding the recently-held APC governorship primary, which was won by Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, were being overblown.
Tinubu said: “My relationship with Governor Fashola remains cordial both at the personal level and at the level of commitment to ensuring Lagos State remains on the path of political stability, growth and development.
“Whether Governor Fashola had a specific candidate or not isn’t the issue here. What is important is to have a transparent process in the spirit of democracy to which we both subscribe. The current situation and issues around the Lagos gubernatorial primary are being overblown.
Tinubu warned the people of the state against speculative, self-serving stories “aimed at destabilising the party and its leadership.
