At least 3,000 delegates of the All Progressives Congress will on Thursday (today) pick the party’s Lagos governorship candidate.
The party, in a statement by its state chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale, said the voting would take place at the Onikan Stadium, Ikoyi instead of its headquarters on Acme Road, Ogba.
The party assured residents of the state that the exercise would be conducted peacefully and would be transparent.
The statement read in part, “The leadership of the party wishes to inform you that accreditation starts by 9am while voting proper kicks off by 12 noon. Over 3,000 delegates are expected at the venue for the exercise.
“All logistics have been put in please, including adequate security and traffic management for a hitch-free exercise.”
Twelve aspirants have been given the go-ahead to participate in today’s primary. They are: A former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Leke Pitan; a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Olasupo Shasore; the current Commissioner for Works, Obafemi Hamzat and a former Accountant General of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Others are the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji; the Senator representing Lagos-West senatorial district, Ganiyu Solomon; a former aide to Tinubu, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, Mr. Adekunle Disu, Mr. Wahab Tokunbo, Mr. Olanrewaju Ope and a former Commissioner for Rural Affairs, Mr. Tola Kasali.
Among the aspirants, Ambode, who is rumoured to have the backing of a former Governor of the state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; and Shasore, who is believed to have the backing of Governor Babatunde Fashola, are believed to be the most likely to emerge.
However, sources say Pitan and Solomon are also major contenders in the battle for the ticket.
