It could be recalled that Nigeria head of military had earlier criticized Cameroon government for not cooperating in the fight against Boko Haram, but the country authority confirmed that it has sent about 1000 capable troops to the far north last week as it steps up the fight against the insurgents.

The two Italian priests and Canadian nun were said to have been abducted in Cameroon in April, official says.

The three were abducted at their building where they were temporary residing in the Northern district of Maroua in the early hours of April 5.

Though no group claimed responsibility but suspicion has fallen on Boko Haram.

It could be recalled that last year, Boko Haram kidnapped a priest and seven members of a French family in the Northern Cameroon which led to global outrage and negotiation.

Italy’s foreign ministry confirmed the release of the Italian Priests Gianantonio Allegri and Giampaolo Martala and Canadian nun, Gilberte Bussier in a statement released yesterday.

Though no details of how the three were freed, but the ministry thanked the Cameroon and Canadian authorities over the release.

It thanked the Canadian and Cameroun authorities but gave no details of how the three were freed.

Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi said news of the release “fills us with joy”.

According to their diocese in the Vicenza reigon of Italy, the priests had been working on improving water supplies and fighting the spread of HIV AIDS, as well as carrying out their religious duties.

Italian media reported that one of the priests had spent six years in Cameroon while the other one had just joined him barely a year ago.

Boko Haram who started their campaign since 2009 has killed thousands of people through their different styles of attack.
