The police in Ekiti State on Friday said a robbery suspect, Mr. Daniel Usman, had confessed he stole a Hyundai SUV belonging to a construction company, Hongye International Nigeria Limited, and lied to frame his boss, one Mr. Xans.
Usman had earlier told the police in Kwara State that Xans, who is his direct supervisor, had used him many times to cheat the company of its money and resources.
The suspect had alleged his master stole the company’s money through three private bank accounts and he did not compensate him.
He claimed the idea of selling the jeep came to him as a last option when he demanded from his master N500,000 to buy a small car but he gave him only N300,000 instead.
The suspect was arrested along the Jebba-Lagos Road last Saturday by the Kwara Command’s Special Ember Months Patrol team, before the case was transferred to Ekiti because the theft took place in Ekiti State.
But the Ekiti Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Alberto Adeyemi, told our correspondent on Friday that investigation had revealed that the suspect lied to frame his boss to attract sympathy from the company.
“The investigation has confirmed that no one conspired or used the suspect (Usman) to cheat the company or agreed to compensate him with N500,000.
“The driver confessed that he stole the Hyundai jeep to make money but did not expect he would be captured.
“He faked all his statement to escape from the penalty. All his previous allegation and accusation on the company and against Mr. Xans were fabricated.”
Adeyemi said the police had perfected a charge against the driver and he would soon be arraigned in court.
