Amaechi lawsuit will give us opportunity to expose him - PDP Party Chairman

By Ehi Ekhator, Naija Center News

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has called as bluff, the threat made by a former governor, Romiti Amaechi to drag the party to court for defamation of character.

In a Statement signed by  Jerry Needam, Special adviser on Media and Publicity to the State Chairman of the PDP, Bro Felix Obuah, and made available to NAIJA CENTER NEWS, the party said Amaechi’s action is diversionary.

Amaechi had said he had dragged the PDP Chairman, Chief Felix Obuah, and two others to an Abuja High Court over allegations that he embezzled $757m (N80bn) belonging to the state while in office.

Amaechi also alleged that he had sued  PDP, demanding the sum of N300bn for claiming that he (Amaechi) operated a private foreign account where he lodged the said public funds.

Amaechi stressed that ever since the news emerged in the open, he had been “inundated, bombarded and confronted by several persons who expressed lack of respect, loss of faith in him and who no longer regard him as trustworthy and now view him as a common criminal.”

Reacting to the news report, the State PDP described the litigation threat as diversionary in the light of shocking revelations, testimonies and discoveries of acts of lawlessness, fraudulent and injudicious spending of State resources by him while in office being witnessed before the Commission of Inquiry into the Sale of Valued Assets of the State by his administration for which he was invited but he refused to appear to defend himself.

While not wishing to join issues with Amaechi until he makes real his boost by serving the processes of the said suit on the PDP and those he claimed he sued, the party said it would not be deterred by threats of litigation neither will it be intimidated by anybody, let alone Mr Amaechi that should be apologizing to the Rivers people for running the State aground for eight years.

The State party chairman, Bro Obuah however added that the intended lawsuit by Amaechi if true, will offer the party the opportunity to expose to the whole world the atrocities committed by the former Governor, for them to adjudge whether Amaechi is corrupt or a saint as he is hoodwinking those who do not know him very well to believe.
