Edo police arrest five car thieves

The Edo State Police Command on Monday said it has arrested five persons who allegedly specialise in snatching cars and robbing their victims on the Agbor-Uromi-Auchi express road in the state.

‎The names of the suspects were given as Eric Erazue, Oghenetega Awuze, Donatus Usamako, Jibrin Mohammend and Marvis Aramude.


The were said to have been arrested few hours after they allegedly snatched two motorcycles and a Mercedes Benz car.


‎The suspects were said to have snatched the car from its owner at about 7pm on Sunday and later drove it to Auchi, where a buyer was contacted to buy the vehicle for the sum of N300,000.


‎It was, however, learnt that the suspects were arrested by police officers from the Uromi Police Division when the car developed a fault at Obagie village, along the Benin-Abuja express road‎, while en route to the state capital, for a transfer of ownership‎.


Two locally made guns and a mobile phone, belonging to the owner of the snatched car, were said to have been recovered, following the arrest.


Edo Police spokesman, DSP Stephen Onwochei, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone on Monday evening, said the suspects had been on the wanted list of the police.


‎Onwochei also added that they would be charged to court at the end of investigations.
