BENIN CITY- GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, yesterday, paid a visit to the camp for the Boko Haram victims in Uhoghua community, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state, saying that the state government will take over catering for the welfare of the displaced persons.
Oshiomhole who visited the camp in company of his wife, lara, expressed shock over the number of the internally displaced persons, most of them children, assuring that the state government will immediately build standard primary and secondary schools and hostels to give them some comfort.
The governor described as shocking, attempts to relocate the IDPs last Sunday by security agents, saying that the issue took him to Abuja to meet with the President, where he prevailed on him to allow the children remain in the camp, as the state government will take care of their needs despite the current economic hardship.
The governor interacted with the IDPs in Hausa language, where most of them informed him of the name of their states and communities. The children, who were elated interacting with the governor, prayed for him and expressed their gratitude to the first lady llara, who said that she had taken them as her children.
According to Oshiomhole, “I can see that the children are from different states in the North, from Taraba, Borno, Kano, Yobe, among others, they are very young. We have to do everything to ensure that they are comfortable. We have discussed with security agencies, they will ensure that adequate security is provided to secure these children.”
