NASS crisis: Tinubu’s group insists on party supremacy

The Asiwaju Grassroots Foundation in Ekiti State, a political group of a National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Bola Tinubu, has insisted on principle of ‘party supremacy’ in settling the National Assembly leadership crisis.

The group also advised the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee to quickly come up with modalities that would curtail desperate individuals within APC from subverting the party.

The State Coordinator, Mr. Adeleye Akintola, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for his stand on party supremacy.

The group stressed that the current crisis rocking the National Assembly over the elections of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Yakubu Dogara as Speaker, House of Representatives, respectively, would have been avoided, if the principle was strictly adhered to.

“All over the world, party supremacy is taken as the bedrock of democratic development. It does not only allow for deepening the democratic culture, it helps in instilling discipline, coherence and stability in the system.

“It is not gainsaying the fact that the APC leaders like President Buhari, Asiwaju Tinubu, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and many others exhibited unwavering zeal during the electioneering campaign to turn around the fortunes of this country for good.

“Their glowing determination, coupled with the self–dignity and spartan lifestyle of President Buhari brought about the landmark record-breaking achievement in the history of our nation, where a powerful and seemingly indomitable sitting President was defeated by opposition party.

“We believe that the members of the National Assembly would have created a solid platform through which President Buhari can hit the ground running, rather than resorting to personality clashes and ethnic cleansing in a bid to rubbish certain figures in the party and rob them of the fruits of labour.”

The group warned some members of the South-West caucus against being used by desperate politicians against their leader.
