Breaking: Sacked Service Chief urges Nigerians to be vigilant, security conscious

In what turned out to be a valedictory session with officers and men of the Nigerian Army, the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah, has advised Nigerians to be security conscious and be vigilant in view of the recent attacks on soft targets and civil populace by Boko Haram terrorists.

Minimah said the leadership of the Army was disposed to the concept of total defence, which would involve the entire citizenry in the defence of the country.

He urged the citizens to show the expected level of alertness in order not to fall victim to the evil acts of the terrorists, who according to him, are out to exploit every opportunity to smear the government.

Minimah made the comment while speaking with journalists shortly after declaring open the Chief of Army Staff Second Conference in Abuja on Monday.

He said, “The thinking in the military intellectual architecture; it suggests and proposes total defence. Total defence is the defence by all citizens of their fatherland.

“And this can be emphasised now and propagated that all citizens must be aware and must be conscious and must be alert to whatever happens around them.

“If you are in a bus, watch out what is happening inside the bus. If you are in any gathering, avoid spontaneous gatherings; everybody should be conscious of one another.

“That is what we have to do so that we don’t fall victim too early, because this terrorists, it is what they think they can use to smear the government of the day that they think they are doing,”
