Nigerian troops destroy more camps, kill Boko Haram members in Sambisa

Many members of the dreaded Boko  Haram group met their waterloo yesterday as the Nigerian troops continued its offensive against them.


The operation clear Sambisa forest has continued despite reports that the terrorists group who may have succeeded in fleeing the troubled forest are engaging in suicide bombing in different parts of the terrorists states.


An unconfirmed number of terrorists died on Saturday as Nigerian soldiers destroyed 10 additional camps used by terrorists during the operation in Sambisa forest.


The Dure camp which is one of the most prominent camps in the forest witness the fiercest battle as the Special Forces descended heavily on it before it finally fell.


According to the Director, defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, four of the camps were located in a place called Iza within the forest while three others were noted to be recently established by the terrorists before the assault began.


A soldier lost his life from one of the land mine encountered during the operation while two others were wounded.


Olukolade said the terrorists lost a number of vehicles mounted with Anti-Aircraft Guns as well as armoured vehicles. Some terrorists who attempted to escape were also ambushed by troops who lay siege for them in their escape routes in the forest.


Some of the terrorists who succeeded in escaping were engaged by Nigerian troops in Bitta and Kiskeru across the border in Niger Republic.


“The Nigerian Air force is maintaining an active air surveillance to track the movement of terrorists for appropriate action as the operation continues.” Added Maj. Gen. Olukolade.
