Adams Oshiomhole, the governor of Edo state, has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of constructing “political roads” in the state to deceive the people of Edo ahead of the presidential election.

The governor, who was speaking on Thursday during the presidential campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin, urged the people to vote massively for APC.

“The dualisation that the federal government is doing does not follow any particular order and we know they are doing it because elections are coming,” he said.

“They will build 2 kilometers from Benin and jump four kilometers to do one kilometer again, then jump five kilometers. When they are approaching Auchi, they will do one kilometer and jump three kilometers again, those are political roads. In an election year they want to deceive the people.

“They are not informed by genuine commitment to extend the dual carriage way from Abuja to Benin.”

He accused the president of favouring the states under the control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the expense of states under the control of the opposition.

“We approached the federal government to assist us with money to develop the state but they refused. The president gave money to neighbouring states under the PDP but did not give us.

“This president has not treated us as his brothers, so we will vote for change. We will vote for a great man.

“As at this morning, power generation dropped to 2, 600 kilowats and for the great people of Benin kingdom, there is no light and the people of this state are being compelled to pay for light that they do not use.

“The people are paying bills for generating darkness. Do you want to vote for a party that has run down our refineries in Warri?”

Also speaking at the occasion, Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of APC, appealed for the support of the people, promising to tackle the problem of erosion in Edo and the other parts of the country.

Buhari said he would tackle unemployment and insecurity, and fight corruption.
