Ondo PDP Chairman, Alabi, Resigns As Party Members Threatens Mass Defection

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, in Ondo state, Mr. Ebenezer Alabi has resigned his position after pressure from the presidency.


A Source told Daily Times Correspondent that Mr. Alabi also resigned following the crisis rocking the state chapter of the party since the defection of Governor Olusegun Mimiko.



The source said his resignation would help finally resolved the grievance among both old and new members of the party.


Already, a new executive led by Mr. Clement Faboyede, former Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperative Services have been inaugurated at National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.


The new executive also has Fatai Adams as Deputy Chairman; Ibine Oyedele (Secretary), Akin Akinbobola (Organising Secretary), Banji Okunomo (Publicity Secretary), among others.


Speaking at the venue, the Party’s National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu said the move would further strengthen the party ahead of the 2015 general election.


Mu’azu, who was represented by his National Secretary, Wale Oladipo noted that the party would garner more support to coast President Goodluck Jonathan to victory in the forth-coming Presidential election.


He added that the southwest would ensure massive votes for the party in next year elections while he eulogized the doggedness of the Alabi led executive for the resignation and mostly putting the party’s interest at heart.


On his part, the Governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko said both the new members and old members of the party have resolved to move forward.


Mimiko promised to delivered the state for president Goodluck Jonathan come 2015 general election


“For me, what look like a major challenge to us has been resolved and laid to rest in the interest of our party and we shall moved the country forward”, he said.


He added that the harmonization of the state executive committee would help transformed the party into a mega one in Ondo state stressing that all previous litigation instituted in the law court has ended.


Earlier, Mr. Ebenezer Alabi disclosed that he only ‘stepped down’ in the overall interest of the party and denied no any inducement or pressure from the presidency.


The new chairman, Mr. Faboyde has also promised to carry everyone along in the running of the party, maintaining that PDP would remain strong in the state.


Meanwhile, some aggrieved old members of the party have threatened a showdown by defecting to the All Progressive Congress (APC) with the latest development of Alabi resignation.
