Removal Of PDP Flags off the Streets, An Invitation To Anarchy –PDP

By Ehi Ekhator, Naija Center News

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) has described as undemocratic, the ongoing removal and destruction of its flags, pin-ups, billboards and posters on the street, roads and poles in the State Capital, Port Harcourt.

The party accused the State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi of giving such directives to the hoodlums who are carrying out the act.

The PDP expressed disappointment over governor Amaechi’s decision to consistently use the resources of government and people of the State to “oppress perceived political opponents in disregard of social justice and fundamental rights of the citizens.

This was disclosed in a statement sent to Naija Center News through an electronic mail, by Jerry Needam, the Special Adviser on Media to State PDP Chairman

The party vowed to resist state governor who it said has deliberately carried out actions aimed at silencing the party, by removing one of its several evidence of its existence, promising that the party would not be cowed by the anarchical tendencies of the Amaechi led government in the state.

The statement added ”Convinced that the presence of the flags on the streets poles in the capital city does not in anyway infringe on the rights of the Rivers State government or the APC, the PDP unequivocally urges the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to replace the unjustly removed and destroyed PDP items. Otherwise, the Party will consider taking appropriate actions in its quest for justice, as it has been pushed to the wall.

”It is a known fact that the Rivers State Government and none of its ministries or parastatals under its control has any genuine explanation for the callous and ill-conceived action they have taken, as the PDP and the public have been inundated with previous remarks and media reports indicating the Governor’s discomfort with the hanging/pasting of the flags and banners on the poles and other public facilities in the State.

”The PDP also uses this opportunity to appeal to all calming voices, well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies to urgently prevail on the Governor to halt the execution of such tyrannical programme of his government and to replace the party’s Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials accordingly. ”

It could be recalled that the PDP had raised an alarm last week following an action by a police officer, who the party claimed was instructed by the governor and his allies to shoot down the billboard of President Goodluck Jonathan.
