Boko Haram destroys 4th Major Bridge in Borno

By Ehi Ekhator, Naija Center News

Nigerian security operatives said that members of the dreaded Boko Haram have bombed a bridge along the Maiduguri-Biu Road in Borno State yesterday.

Gwoza-Bridge,-bombed by Boko Haram.

After attacking a military outpost in Damboa, the sect destroyed the bridge making it difficult for both civilians and troops to ply the route. Damboa is about 85km away from Maiduguri.

An Eyewitness narrated that the gunmen blasted one of the major three bridges leading to Biu near Sabongari village after Damboa town.

The Borno State spokesman of the Nigeria Vigilante, Abba Gawa, said “They bombed the bride when they attacked a hamlet very close Sabongari; the bridge had now collapsed and it is impossible for vehicles to cross over the bride from either side. From the accounts of our vigilante members in that area, the gunmen also killed some unspecified number of persons in the village before using explosives to bring the bridge down.”

It could be recalled that the sect had earlier bomb a bridge along the Gamboru-Ngala- Maiduguri International route, then destroyed the Gwoza-Bama Road Bridge, followed by the bridge linking Adamwa and Borno state at the Pulka town, and now Biu Highway Bridge would make it the fourth major bridge destroyed by the Boko Haram militant in 2014

The destroyed bridges would make it difficult for the Nigerian military to access Sambisa Forest from all directions and most vehicles plying the road will find it difficult due to the damage.
