A police corporal, Samuel Okere serving at Ugbodo Division in Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State has been arrested by the state Juvenile Welfare Centre (JWC) for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl.

Okere was said to have committed the act in Ugbodo at the victim’s father’s house when she returned from school.
The victim’s parents had gone for their teaching jobs when the police officer allegedly committed the act.
When the parents returned from work, the little girl started complaining of pains in her private part as she could not walk properly.
When the father, Emmanuel Iyiekuna asked the girl what happened to her, she told him that the policeman inserted something inside her.
Iyiekuna subsequently went to Okere’s house and he(Okere) allegedly admitted committing the crime but said he only used finger on the girl and did not insert his manhood.
He appealed to Iyiekuna not to disclose the matter to anyone and reportedly offered N50, 000 to take care of the victim which was rejected.
Iyiekuna later took his child to a nearby clinic where after examining the girl, a nurse told him that the girl’s hymen has been broken.
The case of defilement was reported to the state family law centre, a special court in charge of treating such cases and other issues.
At the court, the suspect denied having carnal knowledge of the girl.
The Chairman of the court, Mrs. Elizabeth Nwali petitioned the state Commissioner of Police, CP Peace Ibekwe over the matter, calling for her intervention and investigation.
Three policemen were, yesterday, feared killed during a shootout with pipeline vandals at Olanukan village, in Ishawo Agric area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
Meanwhile, the body of one of the vandals, said to have been gunned down during the gun battle, was dragged into the vandals vehicle as they zoomed off the scene.
A Corporal, identified simply as Yerima, who sustained bullet wounds was said to be responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
It was learned that between 3a.m. and 6a.m., a tanker fully-loaded with suspected stolen petroleum product siphoned from Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, pipeline around Oke-Oko, was flagged down by the policemen.
An argument ensued during which the driver was said to have made several calls to their colleagues.
On arrival, the vandals opened fire on the policemen.
Sources hinted that the three policemen felled by the vandals’ bullets were dragged into their operational vehicle, alongside their dead colleague.
A jealous policeman has taken his own life after killing his lover and a colleague over alleged cheating.
The lady, who sold GSM recharge cards, was said to be double-dating the two policemen.
Investigations showed that the tragic incident took place at the popular CBN Junction in Karu, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday.
The killer cop, a sergeant, was said to be the primary lover of the deceased lady.
However, his colleague working with him on the same police patrol team, also started dating the lady without his knowledge.
Sources, however, told Saturday PUNCH that the bubble burst when the sergeant got wind of the development and went to confront his girlfriend.

As onlookers tried to come to terms with the unfolding incident, the sergeant again shot his colleague dead.
Having certified that the two were dead, he reportedly turned the the gun on himself.
An eyewitness, Mr. Bature Iliya, who said he was using the Automated Teller Machine of a commercial bank just across the road when the incident occurred, told Saturday PUNCH that he still could not believe what he saw.
He said, “They were shouting and arguing. The sergeant was visibly angry, telling the lady why she had to treat him that way.
“The other policeman was a Corporal. He was standing there as the two argued. Suddenly, he shot the lady, then killed the colleague. Within seconds, he also shot himself dead. It was like a scene from a movie.”
Crowds still gathered at the scene on Friday, discussing the incident. Some wondered why someone would take lives because a lady cheated on him.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Anjuguri Manzah could not be reached for comment as he didn’t respond to calls to his phone. He also did not respond to a text message sent to him.
A 29-year-old photographer, Ejeh Smith, and his wife, Grace, 26, are in pains and receiving treatment at a Lagos hospital after a police officer, identified as Dada Ogunsanya, allegedly tortured them with his rifle.

Ogunsanya is attached to the Ikoyi Police Division.
The incident happened at the Lekki Roundabout on Wednesday, last week, while the couple was in a taxi en route to their home at Parkview Estate.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the police officer was among a seven-man team, patrolling the area around 10pm.
The police team was said to have stopped the taxi driver and demanded that he opened his boot for a routine check.
The taxi driver, Ndubuisi Iheaka, told our correspondent that after he opened his boot which contained scaffolding belts, the policeman demanded to see his driving licence.
“I was about getting the driving licence when he started flashing his torchlight on my passengers who were sitting at the back.
“The wife told the officer not to flash the torch on them since the inner light of the vehicle was on.
“Because of what she said, the policeman asked them to come down from the cab. This started an argument. The next thing I saw was that the policeman pulled my passenger (Ejeh) by his trousers, and his wife went to plead with him to stop.
“But instead, he slapped her and punched her husband. He was wearing a ring, which inflicted a deep cut on Ejeh’s face. After that, he used the butt of his gun to hit him in his eye and face. He also dragged his wife on the road.”
Grace said the policeman, apart from slapping her, stepped on her tummy.
“If I was pregnant that night, I would have lost my pregnancy. I was only trying to pet him to leave my husband since he did not have business with us. I told him to face the cab driver and leave us alone. “The other policemen were just looking at him while he dragged me on the ground. A man riding a tricycle at the time was the one who rescued me. He said the policemen must call their Divisional Police Officer or else he would not leave the scene,” she said.
The Ikoyi DPO, Mrs. Aisha Haruna, was said to have arrived at the scene.
Ejeh claimed he could barely see because blood was dripping from his eyes, while his wife was vomiting blood. He added that the DPO ordered that they be taken to the station to make statements.
He said, “But we told her that we needed to first treat ourselves before we could make statements. That was when we were given forms and referred to the Falomo Police Hospital. We paid for the treatment and we also went to the eye clinic for treatment.”
His wife claimed that the DPO seized her phone and asked an inspector at the station to delete all the pictures and video recording she did of the incident.
“Even my personal data were deleted. And when I asked the DPO why she did that, she said we deserved the treatment we got. She said she would have locked us up in the cell if not for our injuries. She said we did not know how to talk,” she added.
The family lawyer of the victims, Mr. Sunday Agbinya, said his office would write a petition to the Inspector General of Police to redress the wrong done to his clients.
“This is a case of assault occasioning harm and we intend to challenge it. We will send a petition to the IG. We want the police to conduct a full investigation into this,” he said.
The legal officer of a non-governmental organisation, Project Alert on Violence Against Women, Mr. Ben Odeh, said the police officer responsible for the act should be disciplined for torturing the couple.
He said, “It is a breach of their constitutional rights. The policeman went too far.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident.
He said, “Yes, the incident happened in the Ikoyi division.Inquiries are on as well as disciplinary procedures.”
A senior police officer attached to Ire Akari Estate Police Station at Isolo, DSP Adeola Timothy Falowo has been accused of attacking a man and damaging his brain in the course of an attack in Lagos state, Southwest, Nigeria.
Brutalised Akhanolu Smart
The victim, Alkanolu Smart has been confined on a hospital bed and his fate uncertain as doctors confirmed that the attack affected his brain which caused total break down of his nervous system.
Doctors said he might not be able to work properly again after it was discovered that he had internal bleeding which led to partial stroke that has paralyzed him.
On 15 July 2014, Smart was returning home from work via Cele Express to Egbe-Ikotun. He boarded tricycle (Keke Napep) but on getting to Jakande Estate and he decided to disembark from the Keke because of a traffic jam.
According to reports, Falowo came down from Jeep and held him, mistaking him for Keke rider. He accused him of scratching his Pathfinder Jeep but Smart’s attempt to explain that he was a passenger not the rider fell on deaf ears.
And before Smart could explain further, he began to beat him before he then hit his head with an unknown object. Some unknown persons also joined him in battering is victim.
After he was battered, Falowo bundled Smart into the boot of his jeep and took to Ejigbo Police Division where he was detained and made to pay N65,000 before he was released.
He said he was eventually released the next day after they discovered that he was inflicted with serious injuries and his health deteriorating.
He said he contacted his relation who took him to different hospitals where he was rejected because of his case had gone worse. He was later taken to a specialist at Benin in Edo State.
He said it was at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH that it was discovered that he had internal bleeding which caused total break down of his nervous system. He said he has since spent over N600,000 and he is yet to recover.
He said when he contacted Falowo concerning his condition but that the policeman did not show any remorse rather he threatened to deal with him again.
When our reporter contacted Falowo, he referred our reporter to police public relations department. He however stated that it was Smart that actually assaulted him.
Armed robbery suspects yesterday invaded a telecommunication shop owned by the Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Abakaliki carting away computer sets and other equipment owned by the church.
According to an eyewitness, “the robbers came into the church premises, parked their car inside, walked straight to the shop and demanded for a samsung Galaxy phone”.
The eyewitness who said the robbers invaded the church at about 12 noon pretended to be customers, “while the sales attendants were about to attend to them, one of the robbers brought out a gun and ordered them to lie down and silently carted away the telecommunication items”.
The eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said after robbing the shop, the robbers made to go away but one of the sales attendant stood up and went after them, raising the alarm.
He said: “At that point, a policeman who was in the church premises to procure a herbal medicine caught hold of one of the robbers but the other one shot him officer on the left hand”.
“The robbers, having succeeded in shooting the police officer, raced to their waiting vehicle where two other members of the gang where waiting in the vehicle and zoomed off un-caught”.
“To ease his escape, one of the robbers threw away two laptops he carted away”.
Some of the items carted away by the hoodlums included computer sets, i-Pads, laptops, digital cameras, hand sets and other information technology facilities worth millions of naira.
When contacted, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, ASP, Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the incident.
Anyanwu said that the shot police officer was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Abakaliki.
BENIN— A Policeman (names witheld), allegedly killed his 19-month-old baby after battering his wife in Benin, weekend.
The incident was said to have occurred at a flat in Sam Enobakhare Crescent, off St. Saviour Road, Benin.
His wife said last Tuesday they were at home when her husband’s countenance suddenly changed and when she tried to find out why, he pounced on her.
Contacted, Dr. Jolly Nosakhare Iguma, the Chief Medical Director of Jonos Medical Clinic where the baby was taken to, said a mother and her daughter brought in a dead baby a few days ago.
He said: “On close examination the baby was pale, yellowish, with tooth bite injuries on his face.
“Since the baby is not old enough to fight with any person, I wondered who bit the baby. However, if he was brought in early enough, the baby would have been transfused with blood. He may have died of jaundice.”
When newsmen visited the residence weekend, it was deserted as neighbors claimed not to have seen any of its occupants in the past few days.
Contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Foluso Adebanjo said he is yet to be briefed, but promised to comment on the issue later.
