One Charles Kaye Okoye who the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party accused of being a card carrying member of the All Progressives Congress and at the same time, a member of the Independent National Electoral Commission has denied the accusation.
The PDP in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, a copy made available to NAIJA CENTER NEWS had accused the said Okoye as an INEC staff who was used by the former governor, Rotimi Amaechi to falsely testify against PDP at the tribunal in Abuja.
The PDP also snapped a copy of posts by Okoye to buttress its claim adding that he was under the sponsorship of Amaechi to lie under oath.
In one of the series of postings on Facebook, Mr. Okoye had earlier admitted that he was available for rewards and bribes by the APC. His later posting on August 6, 2015, also indicated that the expected payment had been made, justifying the assignment by saying “Our Party Promises Nigerians change but the change we promised and which Nigerians desire so much cannot be achieved if we allow the resources that belong to all Nigerians to be misappropriated by a few”.
In a response posted on Facebook, Okoye denied connection with INEC, adding that he has not worked with the commission nor has he been to Abuja for the past one year.
He said “I have no connection whatsoever with the INEC staff, Charles Okoye, who testified at the tribunal; I have not been in Abuja in the last one year.
“I have never worked with INEC in any capacity. The Charles Okoye, who is INEC staff, is well known to INEC, and his identity was never a mystery in the first place or subject of conjecture. The tribunal was open to the public; at least journalists covered the proceedings, and I can never imagine that the Charles Okoye gave his evidence in veils.
” I have never expressed any opinion whatsoever in relation to the tribunal. I have remained disinterested since the conclusion of the elections.
“As could be seen from my old posts, which Scan News shared, in their attempt to buttress their points, I did support the APC, mostly as a Nigerian who truly believed that there was need for a positive change, and that was all. I have not met Hon. Rotimi Amaechi or Hon. Dakuku Peterside before. I have never even met any of their lieutenants.
“I bear “Charles Kaye Okoye” to distinguish my identity since there are over one thousand other Charles Okoyes all over the world. And it is so sad that rather than write about “Charles Okoye” Scan News chose to maliciously substitute “Charles Okoye” with “Charles Kaye Okoye”, just to score cheap points.
Okoye, who is possibly thinking of taking the case up against the media outfit (not NAIJA CENTER) that published the purported claim disclosed that he is waiting for his lawyer’s feedback.
” It is most disheartening coming from an outfit that lays claim to “disseminating well researched credible news stories and features aimed at setting the agenda for development of our nation.” And which claims to “strive to allow all sides air their views without destroying the foundation for peace, justice and fair play.
“There is no gainsaying that I have not been myself for obvious reasons, since this news broke. I have been receiving calls from all over the world; some palatable, and some, not so palatable.” he added.
