Amaechi/Senate Budget Controversy: Let Amaechi Be - PDP tells National Assembly

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has called on the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi not to heed the call by the National Assembly to apologize for his mischievous flippancy or resign from office.

The State PDP hinges its position on the high regard the All Progressives Congress, APC led federal government has for him as an indispensable asset and his taunted closeness to the Presidency.

PDP
PDP

The State PDP Chiarman, Bro. Felix Obuah wondered why a mere controversy over a ministry’s budget that is an infinitesimal part of the 2016 budget proposal should warrant the call for Amaechi’s resignation by the honourable members of the National Assembly who are just realizing their Amaechi’s rascality and eccentricity.

“We believe it’s rather too early to begin to quarrel with Rotimi Amaechi or call for his resignation when he is yet to fix the Nigeria he promised would be changed by his newly found love, the almighty APC in matter of months.

“Again,  Amaechi remains our beloved son who said he single-handedly sponsored and made His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President and he is yet to recoup the billions of Rivers money he invested into the project.

“Amaechi also said he planned to construct the controversial Lagos-Calabar rail line modernization project to empower the APC members in the South-South.

“This lofty dream will not be actualized if he resigns now.

The party said though not surprised at the controversy ignited by the former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi because it’s his character, the PDP wants the distinguished Senators rather than requesting for Amaechi’s apology or resignation use their differences, claims and counter claims to reflect on the kind of persons that are considered for sensitive offices and, or positions of trust.

According to Bro. Obuah, though the honourable National Assembly members may feel hurt by Amaechi’s ingratitude after it had accepted to deliberate over the later included supplementary budget which he later went public to claim was contained in the original budget proposal, thereby portraying the federal lawmakers as partial and discriminatory, the main reason for Amaechi’s mischief was to create the impression that he has the interest of the South/South people at heart which is a fallacy.

Bro. Obuah said he is however happy that Amaechi has carried his antics of setting brother against brother to the very Senate that screened and confirmed his ministerial appointment and would want the lawmakers to use same to reflect on all the submissions by not only the PDP, but also the people, the civil society and  concerned citizens etc, before they went on to confirm his appointment despite several allegations of corruption and breaches of the Rule of law by Amaechi.

“This is the kind of falsehood, mischief, and misrepresentation we have been contending with, from Chibuike Amaechi which his allies and the All Progressives Congress, APC have continued to deny and good a thing, he is now exhibiting the same character to his appointees and this is just the beginning, Bro. Obuah noted.

The State PDP boss said the issue is not whether or not Amaechi should resign as a minister or tender apology to the National Assembly but should serve as an eye-opener and a pointer to the crisis he (Amaechi) instigated in Rivers State that brought about the panel of inquiry that indicted him of a myriad of corrupt practices and fraudulent engagements while he served as governor of Rivers State for eight solid years.

“We have said it times without number that Amaechi cannot change his true colour under President Buhari and must remain a cog in the wheel of progress.

“His early resignation will hardly free the APC members and the unrepentant Amaechi apologists from the world of theories which is not good for the country.

“The taste of the pudding they say, is in the eating while experience remains the best teacher.

Please let Amaechi be!”

Killings /Military Invasion Of Ogoni: Rivers PDP Flays Magnus Abe, Barry Mpigi’s Unapologetic Stance

—Reiterates Call On Magnus Abe, Barry Mpigi  To Show Remorse

The Chairman, Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bro. Felix Obuah, takes a swipe at statements emanating from the candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe, and Tai-Eleme-Oyigbo federal constituency in the March 19, 2016, re-run election in the State, Mr. Barry Mpigi, describing their decision not to apologize to the Ogoni people and families of  victims of the recent killings in the area as a display of arrogance and wickedness.

PDP
PDP

The PDP chairman says statements credited to them which were aired through the electronic media, saying that they owe no apology to the people of Ogoni or any of the families of victims of the Monday 22 and Tuesday 23, February 2016 military invasion of Ogoni communities, during which over 17 persons, including pregnant woman and children, were killed and properties destroyed, are unfortunate and most unexpected of them.

Bro Obuah further views their position on the situation as that of unpatriotic Ogoni men, and unrepentant sinners who deserve no mercy and not to be forgiving, not only by their people but all men and women who have conscience and are on the side of justice.

He expresses disappointment that persons who are canvassing for the votes of the people, and want to represent them at the National Assembly, would not feel the plight and pains of the same people, even when they are  been linked to the incidents that  resulted to the killing of innocent citizens, their potential electorate.

Bro Obuah believes that by their singular act of refusing to apologize over the sad incidents, in addition to numerous irresponsible and abominable actions that do not portray any leadership quality or attitude in Messrs Abe and Mpigi, the people of the Senatorial District should ensure they do not get any of their votes, saying such unremorseful and arrogant fellows do not deserve to be at the National Assembly or occupy any leadership position.

By refusing to apologize and prefer to remain unconcerned and unrepentant over such cruel and genocidal action against their people, it is our considered opinion, even as their reactions portend, that the military occupation of Ogoni communities and killing of their kinsmen and women, and non-natives was deliberate and politically masterminded.

The PDP however, reiterates its earlier call on Mr. Barry Mpigi and his colleague, Mr. Magnus Abe, to reconsider tendering genuine apology to the people of Ogoni, victims’ families and the entire people of Rivers State for their role in the atrocities committed during the military invasion and occupation of Ogoni communities, including Bori, Yeghe, Zaakpon, Bo-ue etc.

“Demonstrate good example of leaders you claim to be and take responsibility by showing remorse for your invitation of the military to Ogoni and for masterminding the killing of your people,” Obuah tells Abe and Mpigi.

Amaechi: APC Dignifies Corruption - PDP

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has described as baseless, laughable, childish and mere ranting the defense of former Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaech’s ministerial nomination by the All Progressives Congress, APC.

PDP
PDP

The PDP State Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah said the APC’s indefensible, laughable, and recourse to tendentious gossip in an attempt to protect the embattled former Governor amounts to glorifying corruption.

According to Bro Obuah, with the historic woeful defeat of the APC in the State, which it ran to total bankruptcy and near collapse notwithstanding the huge internally generated revenue and accruements from the federal allocations, it is commonsense to fathom why they insist in remaining in office to cover up their loots.

Failure to do so explains why the APC in the State and those strangers who assisted in the looting spree, are wrapped in total confusion that is ravaging the party, leaving their members disorientated as being expressed in hollow press statements and ranting.

“Amaechi wouldn’t in anyway be an asset to President Muhammadu Buhari and lacks the integrity and morality to speak for Rivers people”, Obuah revealed.

According to the State Chairman of the PDP, Amaechi’s record of betrayal is evident and available and need not be repeated that he cannot in anyway be an asset to President Buhari.

Amaechi is in court and not making threats – APC

….Tells PDP to provide Obuah and Needam English interpreters ASAP

The Rivers State Chapter of All Progressives Congress [APC] says it has come to it as a huge surprise that the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP], Bro. Felix Obuah should be issuing a press release through his Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Jerry Needam alluding to a threat of legal action by the former governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi even after it has been widely published in the local and national media that the former governor has instituted a N300 billion libel suit against Felix Obuah, PDP and others.

Rotimi Amaechi
Rotimi Amaechi

In press statement signed and issued by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Chris Finebone said: “It is indeed hilarious that an action already taken and so reported across the local and national print and electronic media in very simple journalistic English should be appearing like some apparition to Felix Obuah and Jerry Needam as threat of litigation.”

The APC stressed that would be magnanimous enough to repeat for the benefit of these individuals that the former governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has filed a suit at an Abuja High court against the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, its chairman, Felix Obuah, and two others, over allegations of foreign accounts ownership and embezzlement against him. The former governor is seeking from the party and its officials N300 billion for general damages done to him and defamation of his character, reputation and person.

This action by the former governor is according to the press statement was in pursuant to his right to a good name which is every law-abiding citizen is entitled to.

“If this reality has resulted to some hallucination on the part of Obuah and his people, it would be in their interest to wake from their slumber, have a discussion with their legal team and face the stark reality that now stares them in the face. Indeed, they should be getting ready to have their day in court.

“However, if it is true that the duo of Obuah and Needam truly think that what they read about the said action was a mere threat of litigation, then we would like to advise the PDP to urgently provide interpreters to these people in order to address the communication challenges that may be confronting them in discharging their duties as party officers”, the statement concluded.

Amaechi lawsuit will give us opportunity to expose him - PDP Party Chairman

By Ehi Ekhator, Naija Center News

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has called as bluff, the threat made by a former governor, Romiti Amaechi to drag the party to court for defamation of character.

In a Statement signed by  Jerry Needam, Special adviser on Media and Publicity to the State Chairman of the PDP, Bro Felix Obuah, and made available to NAIJA CENTER NEWS, the party said Amaechi’s action is diversionary.

Rotimi Amaechi
Rotimi Amaechi

Amaechi had said he had dragged the PDP Chairman, Chief Felix Obuah, and two others to an Abuja High Court over allegations that he embezzled $757m (N80bn) belonging to the state while in office.

Amaechi also alleged that he had sued  PDP, demanding the sum of N300bn for claiming that he (Amaechi) operated a private foreign account where he lodged the said public funds.

Amaechi stressed that ever since the news emerged in the open, he had been “inundated, bombarded and confronted by several persons who expressed lack of respect, loss of faith in him and who no longer regard him as trustworthy and now view him as a common criminal.”

Reacting to the news report, the State PDP described the litigation threat as diversionary in the light of shocking revelations, testimonies and discoveries of acts of lawlessness, fraudulent and injudicious spending of State resources by him while in office being witnessed before the Commission of Inquiry into the Sale of Valued Assets of the State by his administration for which he was invited but he refused to appear to defend himself.

While not wishing to join issues with Amaechi until he makes real his boost by serving the processes of the said suit on the PDP and those he claimed he sued, the party said it would not be deterred by threats of litigation neither will it be intimidated by anybody, let alone Mr Amaechi that should be apologizing to the Rivers people for running the State aground for eight years.

The State party chairman, Bro Obuah however added that the intended lawsuit by Amaechi if true, will offer the party the opportunity to expose to the whole world the atrocities committed by the former Governor, for them to adjudge whether Amaechi is corrupt or a saint as he is hoodwinking those who do not know him very well to believe.

Amaechi drags PDP to court, demands N300bn for damages

THE immediate past governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has dragged the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, its Chairman, Chief Felix Obuah, and two others to an Abuja High Court over allegations that he embezzled $757m (N80bn) belonging to the state while in office.

Rotimi Amaechi
Rotimi Amaechi

In what appears to be a fight back by the former governor, Amaechi said in a statement he issued on Tuesday that he had also sued the state PDP and two others for alleging that he (Amaechi) operated a private foreign account where he lodged the said public funds.

Although the former governor did not identify the two other persons he joined in his suit, Amaechi said the allegation had done a lot of harm to his person and reputation, and he demanded N300 billion as damages.

Amaechi recalled that the state PDP on August 6, and August 21, 2015, alleged that he stole the sum of $757 million or N80 billion of Rivers money and stashed them away in an account in his name in Bancorp Bank in Minnesota, United State of America.

The immediate past governor explained in a statement that ever since the said invidious and libelous publications by the PDP and Felix Obuah emerged in public domain, he had been “inundated, bombarded and confronted by several persons who expressed lack of respect, loss of faith in him and who no longer regard him as trustworthy and now view him as a common criminal.”

The statement also said, “The PDP also alleged that Amaechi had embezzled millions of dollars of Rivers State money and stashed the money in other foreign accounts in his name, including a bank in Switzerland. The PDP claimed that the various Amaechi foreign accounts were revealed and blown open by Christine Amanpour of America’s Cable News Network.

“The PDP went further to claim that Bancorp Bank, Minnesota, had written to President Muhammadu Buhari that part of the funds was to purchase a residence for Amaechi in America and that they (Bancorp Bank) intend to return the stolen funds to Nigeria.

“Against PDP, Felix Obuah and two others, Amaechi is seeking the sum of N300, 000, 000, 000.00 for general damages done to him and defamation of his character, reputation and person.”

However, in this fresh suit filed before an Abuja High Court, FCT, Amaechi stated that each of the said malicious publications by the defendants (PDP, Felix Obuah and two others) are untrue, false, motivated by ill-will and without any foundations in truth whatsoever.

Reacting, Obuah told our correspondent that he would not comment on Amaechi’s action immediately.

Obuah promised that his lawyers would react appropriately by the time he read the publication on the said lawsuit by Amaechi.

“I have not seen the publication. When I see the publication, I will tell my lawyers to react appropriately,” Obuah stressed.

Bro Obuah gave the charge today during a courtesy call on him by a team of experts and development partners from Environf Bioenergy Company Limited, led by its Director, Research, Planning and Policy Development, Ogeh Walson.

Rivers PDP Chairman, Felix Obuah Laments Repeated Attacks On Party Members

The repeated attacks on members of the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has become most worrisome and can no longer be taken as ordinary as certain persons opposed to the party seem to have made it a point of duty to eliminate marked PDP candidates and chieftains, the State Party chairman, Felix Obuah has cried out.

To the State PDP chairman, as contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Jerry Needam, this is being orchestrated by the opposition, the All Progressives Congress, APC as the onslaught is targeted at the PDP candidates standing for next month’s general elections and selected party stalwarts.

Saddened by yet another attack on the Party’s candidate for the Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, and former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dum Dekor, the immediate past chairman of Khana Local Government Council, Greg Nwidam, Hon Barine Deyah, Barrister DineBari Loolo, House of Assembly candidates for Khana Constituencies one and two, and two others Wednesday, February 25, 2015, Prince Obuah said there is no gainsaying the fact that the APC is behind this madness.

All they want, according to the State Party Chair, is to turn the State into a theatre of war as a way of forestalling a sure victory for the PDP.

Happening just a few days after another PDP chieftain, and former House of Representatives aspirant, Chukwudi Dimkpa narrowly escaped death at the hands of his assailants, Dum Dekor’s attackers only succeeded in shattering his car with bullets while he and his co-occupants of the car escaped unhurt miraculously.

Thanking God for saving the lives of the party members, Bro Felix Obuah however condemned the continued attacks on his party members and called on the police to leave no stones unturned in unraveling those behind this evil and bring them to book accordingly.

It would be recalled that Rt. Hon Dekor and Hon Greg Nwidam in the company of Bariene Deyah and DineBari Loolo, House of Assembly candidates for Khana Constituencies one and two, among others were coming back to Port Harcourt on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 about 9pm after a successful political campaign in Khana LGA when they were waylaid by suspected hired killers close to the Refinery Junction along Eleme Road in Eleme, and home town of APC National Assistant Secretary, Mr Oji Nhyimenuate Ngofa.

Rivers PDP: Appeal Court Okays Felix Obuah Exco

…PDP Hails Appeal Court For Striking Out G. U. Ake’s Appeal

A three man panel of the Court of Appeal siting in Abuja and led by Justice Ahmed Yahaya yesterday struck out an appeal filed by sacked former chairman of Rivers state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Godspower Ake, a staunch ally to Governor Rotimi Amechi, challenging the decision of an Abuja High Court which sacked him from office.

PDP PDP

Following the decision of the Abuja High court which sacked Ake alongside the former Secretary of the party and returned Chief Felix Obuah and Walter Ibibia Opuene as the chairman and secretary respectively, the ousted leaders, on behalf of themselves and other members of the state exco of the party, approached the appellate court seeking for an extension of time within which to appeal the decision of the Abuja court delivered in April, 2013 which brought about the inauguration of Obuah and Opuene, who are loyalists of the supervising minister for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike.

Following their application before the appellate court, three members of their sacked exco members approached the court asking that both the application for extension of time to appeal the decision of the Abuja court as well as the notice of appeal filled by Chief Ake on their behalfs be struck out as, according to them, their consent was not sought or obtained by Ake before instituting the action on their behalfs.

One of the exco member, Bar Emmanuel Utchay, specifically urged the court to strike out Chief Ake’s appeal for being incompetent as it was filed without his consent.

“The applicants did not seek for neither did they obtain my consent in instituting this appeal. Moreover, we no longer have a common relief” he stated in his application wherein he sought for the striking out of the appeal.

Barrister Utchay, who is the Assistant Legal Officer, insisted that the appeal should be struck out on the ground that it is incompetent having not been filed with their consent as members of the state exco on whose behalf the sacked former chairman and filed the appeal. He insisted that Chief Ake misrepresented their interest in instituting the appeal without their authorization.

Similarly, in her own application seeking for the appeal to be struck out, Evelyn Nkechi Weke, an ex officio member of the state executive committee of the party, contended that Chief Ake ought to have brought the appeal in his personal or private capacity and noted that there is no common interest in the subject matter of litigation to warrant his initiating the appeal in a representative capacity.

She averred that other members of the supposed state executive committee of the PDP in Rivers state have no intention or basis to pursue the appeal and wants the court to make an order striking out the appeal for being incompetent.

Alternatively, Weke wants the court to hold that the appeal was filed on behalf of persons whose identities are not known or disclosed or on behalf of members of non juristic entity referred to as “State Executive Committee of PDP in Rivers State” and to strike it out, or to make an order granting leave for her to withdraw the appeal filled on her behalf without her consent.

In a unanimous ruling, the appellate court held that the applications of the exco members whose consent were not obtained by Chief Ake before filing the appeal in a representative capacity, succeeds and thereafter made an order striking out the appeal and awarded a cost of N35,000 in favour of the respondents.

Governor Amaechi’s relationship with Wike collapsed over the intense internal wranglings in the state chapter of the PDP ahead of the 2015 governorship election and led to the institution of a suit at an Abuja High Court by Chief Obuah Amechi Felix and Walter Ibibia Opuene, who claimed to be the validly nominated and elected Chairman and Secretary respectively at the 17th March, 2012 state congress conducted by a panel led by Chief Dan Orbih and Barr. Steve Emelieze who were the chairman and secretary of the electoral panel respectively.

At the trial, the duo tendered an endorsed list of elected officials at the congress with the number of votes secured by each of the elected officials and their party membership numbers and voters card details clearly written against their names.

The list which bore the signatures of the chairman and secretary of the electoral panel was contained in the letter headed paper of the national secretariat of the party and shows that Obuah Amechi Felix and Walter Ibibia Opuene were nominated and elected as chairman and secretary with 721 votes and 713 votes respectively.

They contend that as winners at the state congress conducted by a properly constituted electoral panel and monitored by the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, that they ought to be the ones occupying the office of the chairman and secretary of the state chapter of the party and not Chief Godpower Ake, and urged the court to compel the national leadership of the party and the electoral body to recognize them as executive members of the state PDP.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has hailed the judgement of the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja for striking out the Appeal against the State Party Chairman, Prince Felix Obuah by the sacked former PDP State Chairman, Chief G. U. Ake.

The party in a statement signed by Jerry Needam, Special Adviser on Media to the State Chairman, Felix Obuah says by this declaration, reaffirming Prince Obuah as the State PDP Chairman, the Nigerian Judiciary has once more proved it still remains the last hope of the common man as an independent umpire which responsibility is to ensure that justice prevails in our society.

Also by this pronouncement, the statement further notes, Bro Felix Obuah remains the authentic and duly elected chairman of the PDP in Rivers State as earlier declared by an Abuja High Court.

While congratulating the victorious State Chairman, Prince Obuah, the Party said this is the beginning of the good fortunes that await the party ahead of 2015 general elections in the State, stressing it’s a victory not only for PDP but for all Rivers people.

It also commended the appellate court for awarding a cost of N35,000.00 against Chief Ake to each of the three Applicants who challenged the appeal  for abuse of court process and waste of judicial time.

The party reassures all party members and supporters across the State and indeed, all Rivers people of an all encompassing leadership under Prince Felix Obuah and enjoins them to continue to give him their unalloyed support.

APC Absolves Self, Rivers Govt. of Complicity in Kidnapping, Murder; Blames Rivers PDP Chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State says it has learnt with shock of the allegation by the factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, Mr. Felix Obuah, that the Rivers State Government and the APC leadership have a hand in the allege kidnapping of three PDP chieftains and killing of one other person.

APC apc

The abducted men include the Port Harcourt Local Government PDP Chairman, Ikechi Chinda; a former member of the House of Representatives representing Port Harcourt Federal Constituency I, Hon Chinyere Igwe; and Alwell Ihunda.

In a press statement to NF-Reports on the night of 27 Feb. 2014, by the Senior Special Aide on Media and Public Affairs to the Interim State Chairman, APC Rivers State, Chief Eze Chukwumeka Emeka said: “We consider this allegation not only very unfortunate but also unbecoming of a fellow who claims to be a party leader”.

“Those who know the antecedents of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the Rivers State Government under his watch can testify to his abhorrence for violence, including the unholy acts of kidnapping and militancy – not to talk of murder! It is a well-known fact that the Amaechi administration did everything humanly possible to eradicate the menace of militancy and kidnapping from Rivers State and that it succeeded in doing so until the likes of Mr. Obuah came on board promoting both militancy and kidnapping as part of their satanic strategy to make the state ungovernable due to their political differences with Amaechi This fact is well known to every keen follower of events in Rivers State.

“It is, therefore, diversionary for Mr. Obuah, who played a key role in bringing back insecurity to Rivers State, to turn around to accuse the Amaechi administration in this regard. We urge Mr. Obuh to apologise to Gov. Amaechi and Rivers APC leadership within 48 hours or we may feel compelled to explore legal options available to us in this regard. He should also assist the police to unravel the circumstances behind the alleged kidnapping and murder since he obviously knows much about these criminal acts.

“Though this act maybe a ploy to protest the removal of CP Mbu from Rivers State by the PDP faithful seeing that CP Mbu was one of their prized members and introduction of the type of Government they intend to run in Rivers State if they take over the reins of governance in Rivers State come 2015 but now that we have come to terms to their level of frustration we will ensure that such a group will never taste power anymore in Rivers State.

“Finally, let us state unequivocally that neither Rivers APC nor Gov. Amaechi and his administration know anything about the alleged kidnapping and murder. We will never be involved in any act that will bring sorrow to even our greatest political enemy or enemies, not to talk of aiding kidnapping of anybody for whatever reason! We urge the Police to investigate Mr. Obuah and find out from him why and how these people were kidnapped as both the Rivers State Government and APC leadership have nothing to do with this”. (0)
