Lagos – A 32-year-old driver, Samuel Adam, who allegedly stabbed a policewoman with a broken bottle, was arraigned on Monday in Lagos.
Adam, who resides at No. 33, Oshoro St., Papa-Ashafa, Agege, Lagos, is being tried at an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court on charges of breach of the peace and assault.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, said that the accused committed the offences on May 20 at Bello Street, Shogunle, Oshodi.
He said that the accused stabbed the policewoman, one Sgt. Raliat Jimoh, attached to the Shogunle Divisional Headquarters, while performing her official duty.
“The accused stabbed the complainant, to resist arrest.”
Olatunde said that the accused was driving against traffic when the complainant stopped him, but he refused to stop.
“The accused was driving against traffic recklessly; the complainant entered his bus and asked him to stop, but he resisted arrest.
“He zoomed off with her from her duty post to an unknown destination; he stopped and was dragging her down from his Volkswagen bus.
“He later picked a broken bottle and stabbed her on her right hand. When he saw blood gushing out of her hand, the accused abandoned his vehicle and took to his heels.”
Olatunde said that the offences contravened Sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 171 prescribes a three- year jail term as penalty for offenders.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted a bail of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola, adjourned the case to June 16 for mention. (NAN)
