The Speaker of House of Assembly, Honorable Aminu Tambuwal who jumped into the presidential race last week after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to All Progressives Congress, APC, has suddenly abandoned his ambition for governorship position in Sokoto, his own state.
The defection of the speaker created a dusty atmosphere as he was bully to resigned and the Presidency ordered the withdrawal of his security aides
With his withdrawal, the journey is now for Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Nda-Isaiah.
Sources closed to the speaker revealed to journalists that the speaker decided to step down even though he is still being pressured by his colleagues to proceed with his ambition.
“Despite the pressure from us and from others on him to contest the presidential election, the speaker, I believe, is trying to withdraw,” a senior lawmaker said.
Tambuwal who had sued the Police Inspector General of Police, and the government for withdrawing his security aides suddenly withdrew his suit on Monday.
Source revealed Tambuwal was personally appealed to by Buhari to step down in order not to sabotage his budding ambition as APC’s consensus candidate in the upcoming party primaries.sabotage the chances of winning.
It was gathered that Tambuwal sudden interest in the Presidential race was engineered by President Goodluck Jonathan to frustrate Buhari from emerging during the primaries.
