Edo LG APC leaders dole out N5m to market women

BENIN—THE leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Uhumnwonde Local Government Area of Edo State, yesterday, gave out of N5 million to over one hundred market women to boost their small scale businesses in the council.

Some of the women received N50,000 each while others got N30,000.

The cheques were presented to the women by the APC leader in the area and the Special Adviser to Governor Adams Oshiomhole on Political Matters, Mr. Charles Idahosa and the Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Mr. Samson Osagie.

In his address to the women, Osagie said: “As politicians, the best we can do for our people is to empower the woman and our youths so as to fight unemployment and poverty in our communities. Unlike the PDP that believes in stomach infrastructure, our belief is that our people must be empowered to be able to be self-reliant. That is what we have just done to provide them with the funds to start small businesses.

“The beneficiaries were captured across the 90 polling units in Uhumnwonde. This is for the women alone. Next week we are going to commence that of the youths because we must chase poverty out of our domain.” This is going to be a continuous exercise and we are grateful to our leader Charles Idahosa because this was achieved due to his hard work” he stated.

Speaking also, Idahosa, pointed out that the funds were realized through contributions from political office holders in the council.
