… As Wike Assures Party of Reclaiming Mandate In 2015
The Leadership of the Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, including members of the enlarged Executive Committee, today, Monday, October 27, received the State Party Leader and former Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, CON, with great commendation and expressions of satisfaction on his immense contributions and supports for the Party.
Wike, who was at the State Party Secretariat, 23 Aba Road, Port Harcourt, in company of a cream of Party Elders and chieftains, including serving and former members of the National Assembly, State House of Assembly members, former Commissioners, Ambassador and other top notchers of the Party on national assignments, said he was at the Secretariat to commend the leadership of the Party from the State to the wards.
He particularly lauded the able leadership of the State Chairman of the Party, Bro Felix Obuah, and other members of the State Working Committee (SWC) over what he described as ‘success over opposition and intimidation by the government in the State’.
The former Minister also formally intimated the Party Executives of his intention to contest the 2015 gubernatorial election, which he said informed his resignation from the Federal Executive Council based on Party and INEC guidelines for any aspirants in public service, saying it is his belief that without the support of the Exco members, no success would be made.
“I’ve come to formally inform you, members of the State Working Committee and leaders of our great Party of my ambition to vie for the 2015 Governorship of our State on the platform of the PDP. As you have heard, it was for this purpose I resigned as a member of the Federal Executive Council and I believe that without you, no success can be made.
“I also have come to ask for permission to visit each of the 23 local government areas of the State with my team. I had to inform you before I proceed on such visit to ensure that we achieve our dream,” Wike said.
Explaining that since 1999 that he signed in as member of the PDP, he has not withdrawn his support or loyalty to the Party, the State Leader and governorship Aspirant on the platform of the party said he has come prepared to reclaim the mandate of the party from Gov Amaechi of the APC. He however, said he would voluntarily offer to serve as campaign manager to any aspirant, who emerges as candidate at the Party primaries, which he believes, will be transparently conducted by the leaders of the Party in the State.
Wike reiterated his charge on members of the SWC and other party faithful to ensure that the abused mandate of the party is reclaimed in 2015, appealing to them to consider party interest above ethnic, tribal or sectional sentiment.
The State Party Leader also warned against election of delegates, who will betray the party at the congresses that will soon be convened.
While assuring the party faithful of victory in the State and at the national level in the 2015 general elections, Chief Wike warned them to be vigilant, alert and resist being lured by the ‘pharaohs’ (referring to Governor Amaechi and the APC folks).
He unequivocally challenged Gov Amaechi to a public debate on corruption, describing him as not only financially corrupt, but traditionally corrupt, saying he (Amaechi) has committed a taboo, and most surely account for the uncovered fraud he has committed in the State.
Responding, the Party Chairman, Felix Obuah, on behalf of the State Working Committee, welcomed the former Minister and his entourage, and for recognizing the supremacy of the Party, assuring them of unreserved commitment and service for the benefit of all law -abiding member of the party.
The SWC also granted the gubernatorial aspirant and his team the permission to visit the various LGAs to boost the support and membership strength of the party, explaining that the massive embrace of the PDP today is a product of Wike’s doggedness and sacrifice in liberating the people and the State from tyrannical administration of Gov. Amaechi.
The Party Chairman also thumps up the party Excos, noting that the over 20 governorship aspirants for the 2015 election on the platform of the party is actually a demonstration of the transparency, openness and egalitarian leadership of the party, reiterating that in spite of the unquantifiable support by Chief Wike for the party, no Executive member will adopt any particularly aspirant as candidate, except at the national level, where the President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, will serve out his second term as he will be re-elected in 2015.
He used the occasion to warn against misguided utterances, saying the party will not tolerate any act of insubordination or careless speech by any member of the party, no matter how highly placed the person is.
He also wonders why some aspirants on the platform of the PDP do not know who the State Party Chairman is or have not supported the party in any way, saying in appreciation of what the former Minister and Leader of the Party (Wike) had done for the party, whatever assistance he needs from the party, he would be given free of charge. This, he said, will serve as motivation for others.
“This is a payback time, but nobody will be victimized. We would do what is necessary to reciprocate the leader’s support for the party. But again, I must say, nobody will be adopted as candidate,” he said.
